Quick pit stop in the Land of Lincoln

If you are a history or politics buff (or just really love Abraham Lincoln) and you driving between Chicago and Saint Louis, or you are driving across the historic US Route 66, you gotta make at least a quick stop in Springfield, Illinois. They got a pretty cool looking state capitol building with Andrew O’Connor’s 1918 statue of Honest Abe out front. There’s also the old state capitol building where Lincoln worked as state representative and delivered his famous ‘House Divided’ speech. There’s the only home Lincoln ever owned, which is preserved remarkably well and has free tours run by the National Park Service every day of the week (except some holidays). You could also visit his tomb, see one of several large painted elephant statues, and more quirky history stuff. I could’ve sworn the elephants had something to do with the Republican Party considering the Lincoln relation, but I couldn’t find anything online so 🤷♂️. A fun piece of trivia to share while in Springfield: Illinois’ capital is only Springfield in the first place because of a Lincoln-led group of representatives from Sangamon County who were all taller than 6-feet nicknamed “The Long Nine.” #historicallandmarks #politics #statecapitol

Step into Tranquility at Jongmyo Shrine 🌳✨ If you’re looking for a peaceful escape from Seoul’s buzz, Jongmyo Shrine is your spot! Home to Korea’s royal ancestral rituals, this UNESCO site dazzles not only with history, but also with serene gardens and a hidden, enchanting secret forest that even many locals miss. 🧭 Your Jongmyo Itinerary: Start your visit at the main entrance right when it opens or aim for around 11 am—by then, the mid-morning light creates a beautiful, calming atmosphere and there are fewer tour groups wandering about. Explore the splendid ceremonial halls, then slip into the secret forest nestled within the shrine grounds—it’s a magical pocket of quiet, golden if you need a moment to yourself. 📸 Insta-Worthy Angles: Snap the massive stone pathway leading to the main shrine for that classic, regal shot. The ancient trees in the secret forest cast perfect dappled light for moody portraits or tranquil landscape shots. 📝 Tips & Need-to-Knows: - The shrine is closed on Tuesdays, so plan accordingly! - Wear comfy shoes—there’s quite a bit of walking on uneven stone paths. - Guided tours are available and can add a rich layer to your visit if you’re curious about royal rituals. - Jongmyo feels peaceful even during peak hours, but the secret forest is best savored in the early morning or close to noon. - Be mindful: photography inside some buildings may be restricted. #Seoul #JongmyoShrine #SeoulTravel #HiddenGems #TravelTips#historicallandmarks #localguides
