The small town takes on a unique flavor as night falls

Suifenhe has a long history, with ancestors of the Chinese nation living here as early as 4,000 to 5,000 years ago. It has been part of various dynasties such as the Tang, Jin, Ming, and Qing. During the Tang Dynasty, it was called 'Shuilbin Water', in the Jin Dynasty 'Subin Water', in the Ming Dynasty 'Sufen River', and it was not until the Qing Dynasty that it was named 'Suifenhe'. The term 'Suifen' originates from the Manchu language, meaning 'spike', referring to a type of sharp, spike-like river snail that lives in the river. Suifenhe was originally part of the inland area of the Qing Dynasty. In the tenth year of the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty (1860), China and Russia signed the Treaty of Beijing, and Suifenhe began to border Russia, becoming a frontier area. At the end of the 19th century, Tsarist Russia began to build the Middle East Railway, and established the fifth station at the junction of Sanchakou in Dongning County on the banks of the Suifenhe River, named Suifenhe Station. Later, due to geological reasons, it was moved 50 kilometers north, which is the current location of Suifenhe City.
