Dongcun is located in the north of Xishan Island in Suzhou, facing Qingshan in the south and Taihu Lake in the north, facing the Hengshan, Yinshan and Shaoshan Islands. Dongcun Village was named after Dongyuan Gong, one of the four merchants of Shangshan Mountain, in the late Han Dynasty. It was called Dongyuan Village in the ancient times. Existing ancient houses: Fangzhutang, Shensitang, Ruimutang, Renyutang, Yanshengtang, Xueyutang, Liugentang, Shaoyitang, Xiaoyoutang, Rendetang, Dunhetang, Cuishiutang, Lang Runtang, Jing Xiu Tang, etc. There are also historic sites such as Qixian Alley, Yong'an Bridge and Dongyuan Gongyu. Due to economic and traffic constraints, the preservation of the ancient villages in Dongcun is better than that in other parts of Xishan. Most of the roads in the village are still the original appearance of slate and blue bricks. The ancient houses on both sides are mostly in the Qing Emperor Qianlong and Jiaqing years. Among them, Jingxiutang has the largest scale and the highest value.
