[History of Mayan Civilization] Chichen Itza

Located about a three-hour drive from Cancun, Chichén Itzá is a vast archaeological site steeped in the history of Mayan civilization. It was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1988. The main attraction is the Temple of Kukulcan, also known as the Pyramid of the Calendar. The pyramid has 91 steps on each side, and when you add the temple at the top, it amounts to 365 steps, representing one Mayan calendar year!
