Lake Toba

Lake Toba is the largest volcanic lake in the world and the largest lake in Indonesia, located in North Sumatra Province. With a length of about 100 km, a width of 30 km, and a depth of 508 meters, this lake was formed about 74,000 years ago due to the massive eruption of Mount Toba, which is one of the largest supervolcano eruptions in the history of the earth.   Uniqueness and Attractiveness • Samosir Island: In the middle of Lake Toba is Samosir Island, a volcanic island almost the size of Singapore. This island is the center of Batak culture and offers various cultural sites as well as amazing natural scenery.  • Batak Culture: The area around Lake Toba is home to the Batak people, who have rich traditions, languages, and arts. Visitors can enjoy traditional dance performances, gondang music, and handicrafts such as ulos. • Nature Tourism: In addition to enjoying the beauty of the like, tourists can visit the Sipiso-piso waterfall, the Tele View Tower which offers a panoramic view of Lake Toba from a height, as well as various traditional villages around the lake. Legends and Myths According to local legend, Lake Toba was formed from a love story between a young man and a fish princess who broke his promise, causing water to overflow and form the lake and Samosir Island. This story is an important part of the cultural heritage of the Batak people.  Access and Facilities Lake Toba can be accessed through the city of Medan, with a road trip of about 4-6 hours. Various accommodations are available, ranging from simple inns to star hotels, as well as restaurants serving local cuisine.
