Ancient Road Village on the cliff
Travel time: 3.5 hours from Chengdu
Dining: There are local snacks sold by locals all the way to the destination. It's best to travel during off-peak times, preferably on weekdays, when it's less crowded and better for taking photos!
Distance: 6-8km, about three hours uphill, and one and a half hours downhill. Watch out for falling rocks.
tips: Be sure to protect yourself from the sun, as this area is at high altitude and the ultraviolet rays are very strong!
Wear proper hiking shoes to prevent foot pain when descending the mountain!
Bring a walking stick, it can save you a lot of energy!
Checked in at Gulu Village
I took a chartered car from Leshan High-speed Train Station and arrived at the mountain entrance before 8 am, when there were almost no people. I took advantage of the cool weather and rushed all the way, reaching the cable car station in an hour and a half. Then, it took another 50 minutes to walk to the Gulu Village viewing platform to check in and take photos. If you don't want to walk, you can also take a motorcycle ride from the cable car station provided by the locals. When I was descending, people were already lining up for photos at the halfway skylight, so it's essential to go up the mountain early. This place has become too popular recently. It took me 4 hours to go up and down the mountain, and it might take 5 to 6 hours for those who don't exercise regularly. There are plenty of snack stalls along the way, so don't worry about supplies.
Ya'an | Don't come to Gulucun in April, or you will
Harvest a lot! ❗️
This place has been rated as one of "China's Most Beautiful Canyons" by National Geographic, and it is also the most beautiful water highway in Sichuan.
The Yi village on the cliff, the Tea Horse Road carved out of the mountain, the mysterious ancient village - Gulucun.
Route 1: Chengdu → Jinkouhe Grand Canyon (3-3.5h all the way on the highway with good road conditions).
2: Railway Soldiers Museum → (9:00-18:00 ticket 20/person, half price for students, parking available inside the park) → First Village of the Canyon (accommodation available).
3: Gulucun (accommodation and viewing platform available at the end) → White Bear Gully (30min, a free attraction developed by the villagers where you can see waterfalls) → Chengdu.
Gulucun Route
1: Starting point Hanyuan Tianqiao (parking lot available, fee 10, small food stalls).
2: Torch Square (this section is mostly Z-shaped steps and some stone paths, relatively easy, accommodation and dining available, ice jelly for 8, horse riding available, reportedly 200s up and down, about 1h).
3: Cable car area (this section has a steep stone path, quite dangerous, best scenery, about 1-1.5h).
4: Gulucun (this section is a highway to Gulucun, you can walk or take a tricycle for 10s/person or ride a horse, a steady walk takes about 40min, the scenery along the way is quite nice, if you have the time and physical strength, walking is recommended, you can also take the cable car one way for 44 or a round trip for eighty).
Accommodation and Food
1: Recommended Gulucun Shenda Brother Reception Station, accommodation plus two meals for 100, one meal for 40/person (about 10 dishes including smoked meat, free-range chicken, tofu, pickled bamboo shoots, pickled cucumber, tomato scrambled eggs, shredded potatoes mixed with vermicelli, stir-fried lotus white, corn rice and white rice, very delicious and generous portions).
2: No drag, Shenda Brother is a village cadre leading poverty alleviation, very nice person, family runs a homestay, affordable prices, good environment, sufficient accommodation, eggs are free-range, vegetables mostly home-grown.
3: You can also choose to stay in the First Village of the Canyon and go to Gulucun early the next morning. There are many accommodations here, mostly self-built houses by villagers, moderate prices, need to be booked in advance, parking available, special local food, barbecue, etc. After eating, you can take a walk... If you want to get up early and avoid the crowds for hiking, this place is also a great spot for viewing.
Notes
1: Gulucun is very clean all the way, good hygiene except for some poop.
2: Specialties include Sichuan peppercorns, walnuts, yellow peaches, cured meat, tea, pipa, etc. Along the way, you can see the water highway, cliffs, and ancient villages, well worth a visit with no entrance fee.
3: Beware of falling rocks, watch your step!!
Items: casual clothes, casual pants, hiking shoes, remember to wear a hat, apply sunscreen, and bring some snacks, water, and your ID.
Leshan Hiking | Gulu Village | A village on the cliff
|||1️⃣Destination: Gulu Village🏡 Search for 'Yixiantian Bridge' in your navigation system. You can park your car when you see a small shop, there are designated parking spots on the side of the road (paid parking). The hiking trail is to the right of the small shop, and there are signs all the way, so you don't have to worry about getting lost. The villagers on the mountain are very friendly, and you can ask them if you have any questions.
2️⃣Hiking Distance: It takes about 2.5 hours to climb the mountain without taking photos or resting. We took about 3.5 hours because we stopped for a meal and to take some photos. There are two ways to descend the mountain: one is to take the cable car from Gulu Village to the opposite mountain, where you can hire a car to go down; the other is to return the same way you came, which takes about 1.5 hours. Points P2 to P5 are great spots for taking photos, and most of the path is a mule track, so be careful.
3️⃣Transportation and Accommodation: It is recommended to drive there by yourself. There are restaurants and accommodations on the mountain, which are owned by the villagers themselves. It is still recommended to have a full meal before starting the climb. We brought camping equipment and cooked instant noodles ourselves.
4️⃣Equipment List: Comfortable hiking shoes, backpack, two or three bottles of water, chocolate, windproof clothing, windproof hat (the wind is very strong on the mountain, so be sure to bring a hat), trekking poles, power bank.
5️⃣Precautions: Do not go on rainy days, as there may be falling rocks on the mountain. It is recommended to go on sunny or overcast days. The wind on the mountain is much stronger than at the base, so be sure to wear a hat. Be careful with your knees when descending, as it is easy to slip. If you're lucky, you might encounter mules. It's suitable for a one-day hike. If you want to visit other places nearby, there is the Jinkouhe Grand Canyon, and a two-day itinerary is also possible.

Follow 'National Geographic' on a journey to see the Jinsha River Grand Canyon, which has been rated as 'One of the Top 10 Most Beautiful Canyons in China'!
And the village on the cliff—Gulu Village
One of the most beautiful canyons in China, the water highway, is worth a visit!
Hello everyone, today I am going to recommend an absolutely unmissable tourist attraction - the only water highway in Sichuan! It has been rated as "one of the most beautiful canyons in China" by National Geographic, with picturesque scenery that makes people linger. It takes 25 hours to drive from Chengdu, and it is very smooth to travel on Sundays too!
Navigation: Gulucun. Starting from Chengdu, the road is unobstructed. As soon as you enter the canyon, the water along the way is emerald green, and there is a dedicated parking lot next to it. After getting off the car, you will see a beautiful "beach".
Walking up, you can overlook the entire canyon. The 2-3 hours of hiking time is a bit tight, so be sure to come and experience it next time! There are two bridges along the way, which are very worth taking photos for memory, and you can also take pictures of the beautiful scenery of the water highway. But be sure to pay attention to safety, there will be more cars on weekends.
Photo spot recommendations:
1. Navigation: Gulucun, the "small beach" next to the parking lot.
2. It's more beautiful going up from Gulucun (didn't go due to time).
3. Navigation: Guancunba Bridge, you can take pictures of the S curve, and you can take pictures of the water highway from above.
In short, this place is really too beautiful, and you will be shocked no matter how many times you come. If you like natural scenery and taking photos for memory, then don't miss this water highway, one of the most beautiful canyons in China! Go and feel it!
"National Geographic" didn't lie to me, the most beautiful canyon in China is stunning!
I simply can't resist such natural scenery. Just 3 hours away from Chengdu, there is such beautiful scenery. It's no wonder it's recommended by my "National Geographic" and included in the "Top Ten Most Beautiful Canyons in China" by National Geographic. It's the only waterway in Sichuan, and there must be a reason for it‼️‼️
The towering peaks on both sides of the canyon are really, really, really spectacular. I really feel how small people are in front of nature, and I really feel the "difficulty of Shu Road" (PS The text I memorized in the past will eventually form a closed loop at an unexpected moment). Please respect life and nature~

Tour route: Chengdu-Gulu Village-Tongxin Bridge-Daduhe Jinkouhe Grand Canyon
Recommended tour days: Two days (mainly deep tour, not tired and relaxed)
🧭Navigation:
Day1⃣️: 1) Gulu Village
Day2⃣️: 2) Tongxin Bridge 3) Jinkouhe Grand Canyon
🚴Transportation:
Strongly recommend self-driving, public transportation here is inconvenient, and the attractions are scattered (the attractions are in a line, very suitable for self-driving, feel the waterway)
Depart from Chengdu: 3h
Attraction introduction⚠️Comprehensive
1) Gulu Village:
1⃣️There is a parking lot under the village (non-major holidays should be able to stop, holidays are probably hanging) so I personally recommend avoiding holidays
2⃣️Gulu Village is mainly about climbing mountains. The village is located on the mountainside and the top of the mountain🏔️. The main thing is to feel the horse road that the ancients opened up when transportation was inconvenient. The whole process is very steep, and the wind is really super super big, the kind that blows people away (maybe it's seasonal) so it's recommended to wear a hat, but the scenery along the way is worth the hardship all the way, the higher you climb, the more magnificent the scenery~
3⃣️The whole process is not stairs, it is uphill, so it is particularly knee-consuming to go up and down the mountain~
4⃣️P7-P13 Gulu Village shooting~
2) Tongxin Bridge
1⃣️Navigation🧭The first village in the canyon/Dao Bing Museum, in fact, it is a village behind the canyon. You can choose to stay here for the first night. The location is convenient, the homestays are very cheap, and the shopkeepers are super super super enthusiastic~ (If you have high requirements for accommodation, it is recommended to stay in Leshan)
2⃣️Go to Tongxin Bridge to overlook the canyon, it is very magnificent, looking at the traffic on the waterway, it is really shocking~ By the way, Tongxin Bridge is also the boundary between Leshan and two mountains~
3⃣️P2-P6 Tongxin Bridge shooting~
3) Jinkouhe Grand Canyon
1⃣️Direct navigation to Daduhe Jinkouhe Grand Canyon Scenic Area, there is a dedicated parking lot, very convenient.
2⃣️Here you can directly see the steep cliffs on both sides of the canyon, the green river, and the waterway, which makes people have to marvel at the magic of nature
3⃣️P1 shooting point

You can drive or rent an electric car in the county town to wander around. It's a small mountain town, so it's not recommended to ride a regular bicycle.

The most beautiful time in Jiuxiang Town is March, during the annual Pear Blossom Festival. Thousands of acres of pear blossoms cover Jiuxiang, and the misty beauty is breathtaking.
