Jiuri Mountain Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Witness of the Maritime Trade Center during the Song and Yuan Dynasties
Jiuri Mountain is located in the west of Fengzhou Town, Nan'an City, and is a famous historical site of overseas traffic in China, listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit. There are many ancient relics in the mountain, most of which are concentrated on the eastern slope of the West Peak and the southern foot of the East Peak. The most precious are the Song and Yuan Dynasty praying for wind stone carvings, including more than 70 cliff carvings from the Ming Dynasty. At that time, the foreign ships that came to Quanzhou to engage in overseas trade had to rely on the wind to drive the ships. The foreign ships coming to Quanzhou would come with the southeast wind in spring and summer, and go with the northwest wind in autumn. At that time, the Quanzhou government and people attached great importance to friendly relations with foreign guests. Every year when the foreign ships set sail, the Quanzhou county guard and the market ship office (customs) related officials and well-known people in Quanzhou would go to the Zhaohui Temple on Jiuri Mountain and pray for the wind for the foreign ships at the Tongyuan Wang Temple, and carve stones for records.

| Climb a mountain and explore seven temples for free, Quanzhou is indeed a fairyland.
The World Heritage Site, Jiuri Mountain in Quanzhou, is less than a hundred meters above sea level, but it has seven temples. Understanding these seven temples is to understand Jiuri Mountain, which helps to understand why this small mountain has become a World Cultural Heritage.
The seven temples of Jiuri Mountain are two at the foot of the mountain (Yanfu Temple, Zhaohui Temple), three on the east peak (Mountain God Temple, Dengtai Temple, East Peak Taoist Temple), and two on the west peak (Land Temple, Stone Buddha Rock).
1. Yanfu Temple: The largest temple on Jiuri Mountain, built during the Western Jin Dynasty, more than 1700 years ago, is the earliest Buddhist temple in Quanzhou. The Indian monk Kuna Ratuo translated the Diamond Sutra here during the Southern Dynasty.
2. Zhaohui Temple: The Tongyuan King who is worshipped is the first sea god in China. The Quanzhou City Ship Office held a grand ceremony to pray for wind during the Song and Yuan Dynasties.
3. Mountain God Temple: The famous mountains in China are generally given a personified image of the mountain god. The Mountain God Temple of Jiuri Mountain is located on the waist of the east peak.
4. Dengtai Temple: Built during the Ming Dynasty, it mainly worships Jin Niangniang and Su Furen, locally known as "Dengtai Ma". This is also the place where Huang Yangmeng, a famous historical figure in Quanzhou, studied.
5. East Peak Taoist Temple: In the early Southern Song Dynasty, a Taoist priest set up a ceremony here to pray for blessings and disaster relief, hence the East Peak Taoist Temple. Today, there is a hall. Zhu Xi once lectured and preached here.
6. Land Temple: Worship the land god, worship the earth, pray for blessings and peace. Located on the waist of the west peak.
7. Stone Buddha Rock: There are stone Buddha statues from the Five Dynasties, which are the earliest stone carvings in Quanzhou. The stone pavilion of Stone Buddha Rock is a building added during the Qing Dynasty.
The temples of Jiuri Mountain coexist with Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, and contain the culture of the Maritime Silk Road, World Heritage, Southern Fujian, and folk culture. Come on a journey to explore the temples of Jiuri Mountain!

Caizishen Ancient Dwellings Buildings Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Min Nan residential houses
The Cai family ancient residential complex is located in Guanqiao Zhangli Village, Nan'an City, Fujian Province. It was built by the overseas Chinese Cai Qian from the Philippines. The construction started in the fifth year of the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty (1855) and was completed in the thirty-third year of the Guangxu era (1907), spanning 52 years. It covers an area of 16,000 square meters and has a total of 400 rooms of various sizes. The Cai family ancient residential complex faces south with a northern orientation. Each residence has either two or three sections, with protective side buildings or east and west wing rooms. The main structures feature hip-and-gable and rolling shed style roofs, covered with red tiles and tubular tiles, swallowtail-shaped ridges, mortise and tenon wooden frames, and beautifully carved beams and painted rafters. Each large house is an independent unit, yet they are connected by stone paths made of granite strips. These stone paths serve as walkways, as well as places for drying grains and resting in the shade. The entire complex is orderly and transparent, with a clever layout, reflecting the main characteristics of traditional Min Nan residential architecture during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
language:
Min Nan Architecture Grand View Garden, it would be a pity to miss this place when you go to Quanzhou
After leaving the Cizao Kiln site, I went straight to the most anticipated Cai's ancient residential building complex today. The residential complex is located in Zhangli Village, Guanqiao Town, built by Cai Qian, a Chinese overseas in the Philippines, from the fifth year of Xianfeng in the Qing Dynasty (1855) to the thirty-third year of Guangxu (1907), which took 52 years to complete.
According to the introduction, the builder of Cai's ancient residential buildings, Cai Zishen, set off from Nan'an, Quanzhou, went south to the Philippines to make a living, and after becoming the richest man in the Philippines, he returned to his hometown, led his clan to build the ancient houses, which is now the famous Cai's ancient residential buildings at home and abroad. It is said that at its peak, Cai's ancient residential buildings had five rooms and three courtyards, plus left and right guard houses, with more than 400 rooms in total.
Today's Cai's ancient residential building complex faces north to south, each residential building is two or three entrances, the main building is hard mountain and roll shed style roof, covered with red tiles and tube tiles, swallowtail shaped ridge, through bucket style wooden frame, carved beams and painted buildings. From the perspective of unmanned aerial vehicle, the huge red brick building complex is dotted with clusters of green shade, the whole scale is larger than imagined.
The residential complex was built from east to west, with 10 large houses on the east side of the core area, which is almost a vertical square structure; there are 8 large houses on the west side, which is almost a horizontal square layout; in the far north, there are world houses and world cut houses where the clan live.
Entering Cai's residential building complex is like entering a maze, walking through the lanes, often feel that the houses look similar, but if you observe carefully, their carved beams and painted buildings are different, not only preserving a large number of stone carvings, brick carvings, wood carvings, clay sculptures, but also many interesting calligraphy paintings on the stone blocks of the porch and the partition of the hall.
Especially the content of the plaque inscription is very worth savoring, some are excerpts from the works of predecessors, some are created by the inscriber himself, mainly involving ancestral origins, family teachings and maxims. Among them, many are praises left by literati and scholars after visiting Cai's ancient residential buildings. For example, on the east and west walls of Cai Qian's porch, you can see the stone tablet of 'Family education has a real source, Meng leads a book to inherit four sons; Village residence has many victories, famous mountains thousands of feet into five peaks'.
What makes me most happy is that there is still a rare life atmosphere in Cai's ancient residential building complex today, and the original residents are not relocated because it has been developed into a tourist attraction, and walking in such still living ancient buildings can better feel the traces of time passing, not just looking back at the past, but a kind of inheritance over the years.

Wulin Traditional Village Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Before leaving Quanzhou, be sure to leave a day for this 600-year-old village
Don't just know to go to West Street and Zanhua when you go to Quanzhou~😆 If you want to avoid the crowd and feel the Minnan ancient house style, 🛖 you must go to this Nanyang ancient village in Quanzhou that has a history of 600 years‼️
📍Jinjiang Wulin Traditional Village
🎫No tickets required
🚗I took a taxi from the airport after getting off the plane, it only takes 15 minutes, and it takes about 50 minutes from Quanzhou city
The buildings here are very distinctive, 📷 there are many photo spots, and you can also experience the Nyonya costume, which can better integrate into the scene.
📷Share my machine position, but there are more beautiful places that you can discover while walking around✅
👉Chaodong Building, Five-story House, Pit Wall Building, Stage, Bridge Batch Hall, Gun Building, etc.
I personally suggest that you can rush here the day you get off the ✈️ plane or the day you are going to fly away, leaving 2-3h is enough, because it is very close to the airport and will not detour.
The traditional village of Quanzhou that has been underestimated for centuries
Visiting Quanzhou, don't just wander around West Street‼️
It's about 🕙 half an hour's drive from West Street
A 600-year-old Nanyang style architectural complex
It's also the shooting location for Nyonya costume changes🎬
Worth spending half a day to take a look👏
About Wulin traditional village📝
This place was built by overseas Chinese returning to their hometowns, where you can feel the homesickness of the people at that time, as well as the fusion of Minnan culture and foreign architecture, which has a history of 600 years. Walking inside, any building you find is quite photogenic📸
Photo spots📷
▪️ Chaodong Building
Go straight into Wulin traditional village and you will find Chaodong Building. Besides the main entrance, the interior courtyard and long benches are also very beautiful
▪️ Gun Tower
Also known as Xiuyang Building, it is a three-story fort with steps in front of the platform for easy photography
▪️ Qiaopi Museum
A Spanish-style building with Minnan red bricks, Qiaopi was the institution for family letter delivery in the past
▪️ Five-story Mansion
Although the building has a Western appearance, the first and second floors are in the style of Minnan architecture
There are many special coffee shops in Wulin traditional village, and the unique space design combined with the surrounding environment is an additional pleasure
When you come to Quanzhou, don't miss this century-old South Seas style ancient village
When you travel to Quanzhou, if you find West Street too crowded and noisy, I recommend you visit Wulin Village in Jinjiang.
This group of Southern Fujian ancient buildings, which has endured over 600 years of vicissitudes, is filled with the nostalgia of overseas Chinese from Southern Fujian. Here you can find both Southern Fujian official-style mansions and exotic architectures such as Gothic and ancient Roman styles. Walking on the stone-paved roads, you will experience the nostalgia of a traditional Chinese village blended with Western architecture. I strongly suggest spending half a day to explore this niche treasure and feel the pulse of history and the charm of the overseas Chinese hometown in Southern Fujian.
🚗Transportation
It takes about 20min by taxi from Quanzhou Airport, and about 10min from the South Station.

Chao Dong Tower➡️Opera Stage➡️Five-Story Building➡️Gun Tower➡️Overseas Chinese Letter Museum➡️World View Tower➡️De Wei Residence➡️Southern Fujian Style Museum➡️Juruo Ancient House Bookstore.
📍Chao Dong Tower: This is the landmark building of Wulin Village, with Roman-style arches. The courtyard is simply lovely for photos! There is also an exhibition hall for visiting.
📍De Wei Residence: A very traditional Southern Fujian ancient building stack, with a more than 200-year-old banyan tree in the courtyard, with intricate roots, very spectacular, also known as 'Banyan Root Residence' by the locals.
📍Gun Tower: Also known as the Cultivation Tower, it is the highest point of the ancient village. Buying a ticket to go up allows you to overlook the entire beauty of the ancient village.
📍Scoop Wine Brewery: At the entrance of the soy sauce wine museum, there are bamboo rattan chairs, and you can also take photos of the Gun Tower.
📍Opera Stage: Not far from the entrance of the village, you can see the opera stage. The sunshine wine on the stage is really amazing, and various activities are also held here. You can check the performance list at 'Jinjiang Wulin Traditional Village'.
📍Five-Story Building: The tallest western-style building in Wulin, with five stories. The exterior is in the style of ancient Rome, but the first and second floors are in Southern Fujian style, which is quite interesting.
📍Overseas Chinese Letter Museum: A Spanish-style western building made of Southern Fujian red bricks. Now it is a post office building, and you can go up to the second floor for free to take panoramic photos of the village, with a great view.
🚶🏻♂️Juruo Ancient House Bookstore: The environment is particularly nice, especially for taking photos, unique.
Tips
1️⃣The ferry car costs 9 yuan for a round trip, which is not very necessary unless it's a very hot day, as it's only a 3~5 minute walk.
2️⃣For those who want to take photos in Nyonya/Zan flower style, this is the place to come, with fewer people than Quanzhou West Street and Xunpu Village, and the scenery and buildings are also very photogenic.
3️⃣There are plenty of things to eat, drink, and play in the scenic area, including some cultural and creative shops, beverage shops, authentic Southern Fujian restaurants, etc. If you don't want to eat in the scenic area, Wen Cheng Niu Niu or Bagua Street nearby is recommended.
4️⃣The pond at the entrance of the village is also a great place to take reflection and sunset photos.
Heading to Wulin for a rendezvous in the South Seas
How can one miss the Nyonya costume change in Wulin when visiting Quanzhou?
The joy that cost 80 yuan today was given by Wulin~
Once you arrive at the Wulin scenic area, you'll see Nyonya costume changes everywhere. My personal suggestion is that unless you have already made an appointment with a very popular internet-famous store and photographer, your choice should be like shopping for clothes: you can go into the store to browse, find the style and color of the clothes you like in advance, and then let the merchant match them for you. Try to find a larger store with clean costumes and a complete range of accessories, where you can pick first and pay later. Don't be shy; make sure to choose something you're satisfied with. The 80 yuan includes a set of clothes, a vest, hairstyle, and shoes, all at a uniform price. If you want more choices, be sure to go early, otherwise the clothes might be rented out by others. Makeup requires an additional fee. Unless you really don't know how to take photos, or you are traveling alone, finding a photographer on the spot is likely to be a disappointment. The final photos may not have the same feel as the customer photos you see on the platform, and the customer photos they show you may not even be taken by their own photographers, or they may not be able to arrange for that photographer for you at the moment. Most of them are the kind of package deals that come with the store's assembly line. Although the price won't be very expensive, starting from 200 or 300 yuan, I personally don't like the experience of that assembly line. In short, the Nyonya costume change is still worth experiencing, and as for the rest, it depends on personal needs.
The most photogenic spots are basically around the 'Chaodong Building', the closest building to the intersection. Wulin is currently not only free of admission but also free parking, although the parking lot is about a 10-minute walk from the scenic area.
