This is one of the popular and very well known tourist destinations of Beijing. Originally an art museum, famous for exclusive collection of ancient porcelain, bronze, calligraphy, painting, jade, sculpture, Buddhist statues from imperial China and unique architecture – the museum is worthy enough to visit for the visitors. If you are in Beijing, considering not visiting this museum would definitely be a big miss! Plenty of artistic elements are there, exhibited nicely to allure the visitors. It is just a few minutes away from the nearest metro station and thus, reaching this place would not be a great deal of challenge for any visitor.

This is a beautiful space. With over 80K artefacts, you won't worry that you missed somenthing about the Chinese culture, archeology and history. It is a massive building, forbidding from the outside; the interiors are extraordinarily well presented. The huge hall featuring a bronze cilinder the size of 5 story building and an archway from Ming dynasty centrally placed. We had a guided tour starting from the top floor; it can be exhausting - but it's well worth it. Model villages are particularly nice. The museum shop is on the lower underground level - again, this is a place to shop for beautifully manufactured replicas, althought these are not the cheapest in Beijing. 🕐️DAY 1: Capital Museum Morning: Travel from Tianjin to Beijing. The journey takes about 1.5 hrs. The expressway is toll-free during the Lunar New Year. Remember to apply for a Beijing Entry Permit for vehicles entering the 6th Ring Road in advance. Afternoon: Lunch & Capital Museum We arrived in Beijing around 12pm and had lunch at Hai Wan Ju. Their Zha Jiang Mian (fried sauce noodles) is quite authentic. The price is affordable, about CNY 40 per person. You can spend 2–3 hrs at the Capital Museum. It's worth visiting if you are interested in history, cultural relics, and especially bronzeware. Evening: Qianmen Street Temple Fair Qianmen Street is located within the 2nd Ring Road. Cars can only be parked outside the 2nd Ring Road. We took the subway to Qianmen Street. There were quite a lot of people. For dinner, we chose Men Ding Rou Bing (meat pie) on Qianmen Street. The price is also reasonable, about CNY 50–60 per person. 🕐️DAY 2: Morning: Auto Museum The temperature in Beijing is low in the morning, so indoor activities are the first choice for families with children. My son loves cars, so the museum was like heaven for him. The ticket price for adults is CNY 29. The Auto Museum has five floors. There are not many exhibits on the first floor. The 2nd to 5th floors display various classic cars and electric car models. It's a good choice for car model enthusiasts. Afternoon: Beijing Livat We originally planned to go to Tanzhe Temple in the afternoon, but the highest temperature in Beijing in early February was around 4°C, and it was windy, so it felt very cold. We decided to skip Tanzhe Temple and went to Beijing Livat, an indoor shopping mall. There is an IKEA inside, and a Sam's Club nearby. It's a comfortable place for kids. Evening: Beijing Livat 🕐️DAY 3: Morning: Return to Tianjin We originally planned to visit the Science and Technology Museum, but my son had diarrhea and vomiting in the morning, so we had to return to Tianjin earlier than planned. 💗Other tips: Wear warm clothes in Beijing in February, especially if you are from out of town, as you'll be spending most of your time outdoors.

The exhibition features 270 pieces (sets) of artifacts from the National Archaeological Museum of Athens and other institutions, most of which are being displayed outside Greece for the first time. Spanning from the Neolithic period in Greece (5800 BC) to the Hellenistic period (1st century BC), the exhibition offers a panoramic view of ancient Greek history. The exhibition title mentions two historical figures: Agamemnon, the leader of many city-states in ancient Greece, whose deeds are recorded in Homer's epic "Iliad," and Alexander the Great, the King of Macedonia and the foremost of the four great Western military commanders. Alexander ascended the throne at the age of 20, unifying all of Greece, sweeping through Central Asia, toppling the Persian Empire, and occupying the entire territory of Egypt without a single battle. He conquered three of the four great ancient civilizations. Alexander died in Babylon in 323 BC at the age of 33. The most popular exhibit in the special exhibition is the replica of the "Mask of Agamemnon" (Figure 1), a gold mask handcrafted by hammering. The original artifact is a national treasure of Greece and cannot be taken out of the country. Even the replica is an antique from the 19th century. (Figure 2) Bust of Alexander the Great. 20241130 Capital Museum~Exhibition of Beijing History In the Classic of Mountains and Seas, the Beijing and northeast regions during the Xia dynasty were called "Xuanqiu". At that time, the Beijing region was the intersection of three major cultural areas: the Central Plains, the north, and the Haidai region. The Erlitou culture in the Central Plains influenced the lower layer of the Xiajiadian culture in the north through the Beijing region. By the late Shang dynasty, the Beijing region had developed into a vassal state in the north of the Shang dynasty. I came here especially to see the museum's most prized possession! ☞Boju Li Early Western Zhou dynasty (mid-11th century BC to mid-10th century BC) 33 cm in height, 22.9 cm in mouth diameter, 24.2 cm in belly diameter, 7,500 g in weight. Unearthed from Tomb No. 251 at the Liulihe Site in Fangshan District, Beijing in 1974 Boju Li was unearthed from Liulihe in Fangshan, Beijing in 1974. It is exquisitely cast and majestic, especially with its entire body decorated with seven embossed ox head patterns, vividly depicting the demeanor of the ox. Its unique and magnificent shape has high aesthetic and artistic value, making it a rare treasure among bronze ritual vessels of the Shang and Zhou dynasties. This shape is extremely rare in ancient bronzes, showcasing the superb level of ancient casting techniques in Beijing. Inside the lid and the inner wall of the vessel, there are two identical inscriptions with a total of 15 characters: "On the day of Wuchen, the Yan Marquis bestowed cowries upon Boju, who used them to make a zun vessel for his father Wu." The general meaning is that the owner of the vessel, Boju, was honored by the reward from the Yan Marquis and cast the Boju Li to commemorate the event. Since the discovery of the Liulihe Site in Fangshan in 1962, it quickly became the focus of attention for archaeologists. After years of excavation and research, scholars finally identified it as the location of the Yan State, where King Wu of Zhou enfeoffed Duke Shao Shi after the fall of the Shang dynasty. The Yan capital of the Western Zhou dynasty has a history of over 3,000 years and marks the beginning of the city of Beijing. Boju Li is a relic left by the Yan State of the Western Zhou dynasty, a typical representative of the bronze vessels of the Yan State, and a witness to the birth of Beijing.

The bottom of the plate is cast with the inscription "Gui Boju made a precious ritual vessel". This plate has an ancient shape and exquisite patterns, and is a fine piece with the legacy of the late Shang Dynasty. ☞Coiled chi pattern beast-eared vessel Early Warring States Period (475-378 BC) Chi is a hornless dragon, and coiled chi is a coiled dragon, which is a deformation and simplification of dragon patterns in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. The vessel is a large water container used to hold water (or ice), bathe, and reflect. The original meaning of the word "jian" is to hold water and reflect. The rim of this vessel has four beast ears with different shapes, one pair of which is a beast head holding a ring, and the other pair is a crawling beast with its head out and ears down, lively and interesting.

❤️ I didn't expect that there is an archaeological excavation on the B1 floor of the Capital Museum. It's perfect for taking kids in the cold winter. It's educational and fun, and kids can learn while playing. It's a new place to take kids in winter. 🕰️ It's best to check if you need to make a reservation first. When we went there, the session was already full, so we had to book the next session, which was about 1 hour. The museum is large and not crowded. I entered from the basement and first saw the "Soul of Russia" art exhibition. The exhibition features 56 selected paintings from the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery in Russia. If you like the combination of Eastern and Western cultural characteristics, you can come and see. I quite like the curatorial style of the exhibition. No photography is allowed in the exhibition hall. I took the escalator to the first floor and entered the special exhibition commemorating the 870th anniversary of the founding of Beijing - "Glorious Central Axis" special exhibition. The exhibition is divided into three parts: magnificent central axis, cultural central axis, and eternal central axis, showing the beauty of Beijing's central axis. Before entering the exhibition, I was curious about how to present such profound and complex content? As soon as I entered, I was attracted by the digital exhibition method. The 16-meter-long central axis sand table and the three-dimensional projection bring a variety of light and shadow, allowing people to instantly travel to the central axis and "immerse" in the exploration of the history and changes of the central axis. The concrete form of expression makes it easy for people to accept and understand. The open exhibition hall displays many maps, photos, unearthed cultural relics, etc., in chronological order, showing the planning, construction, improvement and development of the central axis, and also showing the historical process of Beijing from the original settlement to the capital. The second and third floors are the general history of Beijing. As soon as I entered the door, I saw the historical process of Beijing told by digital exhibition methods. Then, cultural relics, models, etc. are used to display the ancient charm, historical culture and eternal charm of Beijing. The fourth floor is the old Beijing theater exhibition. As soon as I walked in, there was a big stage, and there were tables and chairs to sit under the stage. But there are no real people singing on the stage, you can watch the big screen. There are some old objects related to drama behind the stage. The fifth floor is the "Time and Victory" - Old Beijing Folklore Exhibition. With seasonal customs, human customs, and material changes as the main content, it displays the clothing and traditional food of old Beijing, which is a very Beijing-style exhibition hall. There are many exhibition halls, it is recommended to visit the exhibition halls you like with focus.

The Bronze Seated Dragon from Jin Zhongdu is a treasure of the Capital Museum. The dragon has a pig-like snout, with a single scale-like horn extending from the top of its head to the back of its neck. Wings extend from its shoulders, its front claws are upright, and its hind claws are bent and squatting, presenting a posture that is both majestic and poised to strike. The upturned 'twisted double tails' split into two branches at the back, each curling outward. The staff highly recommend it, possibly because it is an important witness to the history of Beijing as a capital. It holds great significance for the study of the history, culture, and art of the Jin Dynasty, as well as the urban development and changes of Beijing.

I can't move forward again after reaching here, another exhibit that captures the heart at first sight. The exquisite carving and the richness of the content are astonishing. I walked around it again and again, feeling overwhelmed by the amount of detail. 📷📷📷📷 This is a Liao Dynasty stone coffin unearthed in the Dongcheng District in the 1950s, which fully depicts the Nirvana of the Buddha on all four sides. The front shows the Nirvana scene, the right side shows the wrapping of the Buddha, the left side depicts the ascension and preaching, and the back shows the offerings at the golden altar. I personally don't know much about Buddhism, as its knowledge system is vast and complex. I am simply captivated by its beauty, unforgettable at first sight.

Since 1499, it had been in good condition, almost celebrating its 1500th birthday, but the Taihe statue, also known as the 'Yan Huiduan statue,' was shattered 😂. It was carved in the 23rd year of the Taihe era of the Northern Wei Dynasty, which is 499 AD, making it 1525 years old now. It is the earliest surviving stone Buddha statue in Beijing and was part of the first batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units in Beijing, along with the Forbidden City. 📷📷📷📷 Due to its fame, it was stolen in 1998, a major case that shocked the capital that year. With the full efforts of the police 👮, the statue was recovered within half a year. Unfortunately, it had already been shattered into five pieces. The repair marks are still clearly visible. The statue had been in good condition since 1499, almost celebrating its 1500th birthday, but was shattered. The museum was prepared in 1953 and opened in the Confucius Temple of the Imperial College in 1981. The new building opened in 2006. The new building has a construction area of nearly 64,000 square meters and is an architectural artwork that integrates classical and modern beauty. The museum is divided into basic exhibitions, fine exhibitions, and temporary exhibitions. The Liujiawa cemetery in Pinggu from the Shang Dynasty reflects the cultural aspect of the 'Fang States' that was deeply influenced by the ritual system of the Shang Dynasty.
