The altitude is only 3,500 meters, but I just can't get over it 😫! Be careful when you travel, everyone! Here are some practical tips I learned from my trip to Huanglong Scenic Area. Be sure to read them! ✅ How to buy tickets for Huanglong? 🎫 There are several types of tickets: Full-price ticket (including admission and cable car up) ✅ This is a must-buy! Cable car down ticket (optional) Sightseeing bus ticket ✅ (must-buy! Limited to 5,000 tickets per day, so be sure to book in advance) ❷ Order of visiting the scenic area Queue at the entrance to take the bus to the cable car station ⚠️ Some people say there are long lines in the morning. I suggest entering the park around 12 pm. The sunlight is just right, and there are no lines! ⚠️ The cable car ride takes about 10 minutes. After getting off the cable car, take the sightseeing bus if you have a ticket, then walk 800 meters to the Five-Color Pond. After visiting the Five-Color Pond, if you don't have a cable car down ticket, walk 4 km to the exit, stopping to enjoy the scenery along the way. I personally recommend going to Jiuzhaigou first, then Huanglong, because Huanglong is more tiring and you are more likely to get altitude sickness, which could affect the rest of your trip! ❹ Other notes ⚠️ It takes about 4-5 hours to visit Huanglong. Basically, you take a cable car to the top of the mountain and then walk a flight of stairs to reach Huanglong Temple. Walking slowly and taking photos along the way is not tiring at all. On the way back, you can walk down the mountain, which takes about two hours. If time does not permit, you can also take the scenic area's cable car back the same way. ❄️ It's hard to imagine that in May, the entire mountain area is still covered with snow, making for very photogenic scenes. Huanglong - Huanglong On a rainy day We bought tickets at the Ticket Office, 140Y per person, entrance fee + cable car (one way). When we reached the top, we bought a 20Y electric car ticket (paid by Alipay, Wechat, cash, except credit cards). We walked all the way up to the Huanglong Stream, then walked along the path down. The path is beautiful (be careful of AMS, altitude sickness). If you come to visit Huanglong, I recommend staying in Songpan. You can travel back and forth from Songpan. Or leave early in the morning to visit Huanglong and then sleep in Jiuzhaigou. In Jiuzhaigou, we stayed at Holiday Inn Express (Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area), 500m from the entrance to Jiuzhaigou Valley. How to get from Jiuzhaigou to Huanglong Scenic Area? Detailed guide is here! There are three modes of transportation to choose from from Jiuzhaigou to Huanglong Scenic Area: 1. Charter a car: You can rent a taxi or charter a car to go to Huanglong Scenic Area. This is the most convenient and flexible option, but may be more expensive. It takes about 3 hours from Jiuzhaigou to Huanglong Scenic Area. 2. Bus: At the Jiuzhaigou Bus Terminal in Jiuzhaigou County (near Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area), you can take a direct bus to Huanglong Scenic Area. Bus frequency may be limited, so it is recommended to know and arrange your itinerary in advance. There are usually many shuttle buses departing between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., making it convenient to enter the Huanglong Scenic Area for sightseeing. 3. Self-driving: It is more convenient for tourists who drive by themselves. Driving from Jiuzhaigou to Huanglong, National Highway 544 is in good condition. The journey is about 120 kilometers. Along the way, we pass Jiuzhaigou National Forest Park, Minjiangyuan National Wetland Park, and snow mountains. It can be called China’s Scenic Corridor! There are many viewing and parking spots along the way. On this road, you can walk and play for half a day! Things to note 1. The distance from Jiuzhaigou to Huanglong Scenic Area is relatively long, generally taking about 3 hours by car. Before going to Huanglong Scenic Area, it is best to understand the traffic conditions in advance and make a detailed itinerary plan. 2. It usually takes about 3-4 hours to visit Huanglong. In addition, if you want to directly enter the scenic area after arriving at Huanglong Scenic Area, you need to set off before 8 a.m. that day. 3. If you cannot make it to Huanglong Scenic Area on the same day or even if you arrive, you do not have enough time to visit the scenic area, it is recommended to stay in Songpan County or Chuanzhusi Town and enter the scenic area early the next morning. Songpan County is about an hour's drive from Huanglong Scenic Area, and Chuanzhusi Town is about 30 minutes' drive from Huanglong. You can also visit Songzhou Ancient City or Chuanzhu Temple. 4. We visited the Huanglong Valley Scenic area during the Chinese National Holiday. That wasn't really a smart choice. There were a lot (really a lot) of people there. Actually there are 2 possibilities to enter the park. There is the lower side entrance, which is located right next to the ticket office. If you choose this entrance, you will have to walk the wooden pathway up to the mountain top. Or, you can do as we did, we started and climbed until we were comfortable with the oxygen. Because of the high elevation of the park, you need to take an oxygen tank. I think you can buy oxygen tanks at the scenic area too. We were traveling with a 4 years old and a 6 years old. So we decided we will visit as much as we can and as long as we feel comfortable So we did not hurried, took rests several times, enjoyed the views and took pictures. You need an actual ticket to get into the park. So if you booked the ticket ahead, you need to go to the ticket office to get your actual ticket. You can't enter just with your passport. The other entrance we did not visit. From the ticket office you take a bus to cable car. When you reach the cable car, it will take you right up to the top of the mountain. You make sure you have the oxygen tank with you. Most of the people prefer to visit the park this way, so they walk down the mountain. During the Chinese National Holiday there were never ending queues at the bus stop and at the cable car entrance. Almost nobody took the lower entrance. So if you don't mind walkin your way up the mountain, you can easily enter by the entrance next to the ticket office.
