Andalucia Tour ~ Huelva (Region) A beautiful mansion in Moguer (Huelva) commemorates the legacy of the Nobel Prize winner in Literature. Juan Ramón Jiménez, author of the famous Platero and I, spent most of his childhood and youth in this building. The 19th-century building displays personal items, paintings, photographs, documents and the poet’s entire private and newspaper library, as well as other household items. The two-storey house is in Andalusian style with a large central courtyard. Andalucia Tour ~ Huelva (Region) It was built between the 14th and 16th centuries and incorporates Gothic and Mudejar styles. Of particular note are the tombs of the Portacarreros family. This is a sculpture group carved in white marble by sculptors Gian G. Della Porta and Giovanni de Pasallo. It also houses the Diocesan Museum, highlights of which include the Cristo de la Humildad, made from English alabaster by Martínez Sugrañes. Andalucia Tour ~ Huelva (Region) Moguer is a town in the La Tirara region, on the banks of the Tinto River, a place deeply involved in the discovery of America, since it was in the Monastery of Santa Clara that Christopher Columbus took his oath of allegiance. The town is the birthplace of poet and Nobel Prize winner Juan Ramón Jiménez, whose former home has been converted into a museum. It also preserves many interesting monuments, such as the castle fortress, which was originally a Roman villa and later transformed into a farm by the Arabs. The city center was built around this fort. From the perspective of ancient buildings, only two large towers and part of the city wall remain.
