Black sand Beach in Auckland
This was the first time I had the opportunity to see a beach with black sand and is just a short drive away from Auckland city.
The place is often empty and the water is cold so not many people swim in the sea, there's a big rock to climb and take view of the beach, like in the second picture.

Rocks and Sea
Piha Beach is such a wonderful beach with fine jet black sand that feels great to walk through. It is dominated by Lion Rock an extinct Volcanic plug. The waves come crashing in and it is a good beach for surfing but for swimming I would advise swimming where the lifeguards are as there can be currents. Well worth a visit.

Famous surf beach in Auckland!
Located 45mins away from the downtown of Auckland, Piha beach is a famous beach known for the ideal wave conditions for surfing and also the black sand with panoramic views.
Also shown in the photo, the large stone formation is named the Lion Rock which is Piha’s most iconic landmark. For those who are adventurous, you can also climb up the lion rock for a spectacular view of the beach in every directions.
The beach is perfect for those looking to surf, surf classes are also available. But if not, it serves as a wonderful place to picnic while enjoying the amazing scenery the beach has to offer.
Sunset is extremely beautiful so photographers are recommended to time their visit well to have a chance of bringing back a beautiful memory of this location!

Piha Beach
Piha Beach, located on the rugged west coast of Auckland, New Zealand, is one of the country’s most famous and iconic beaches. Known for its dramatic landscapes, strong surf, and black sand, it offers both beauty and adventure.Piha is famous for its unique black sand, which is due to the high iron content from volcanic activity. The dark, shimmering sand gives the beach a striking, dramatic appearance, especially under the sunlight.Piha is a top destination for surfers, thanks to its powerful waves. The beach is known for having strong rips and challenging surf conditions, making it popular with experienced surfers. It also hosted New Zealand’s first-ever national surfing championship in the 1960s. However, swimmers should be cautious and stay between the flags as the currents can be dangerous. One of Piha Beach’s most recognizable landmarks, Lion Rock is a large natural rock formation that sits between the north and south ends of the beach. It is named for its resemblance to a crouching lion. Visitors can hike partway up the rock for panoramic views of the beach and the surrounding coastline.Piha is surrounded by lush native forest and has a number of walking tracks in the area. The Tasman Lookout Track offers spectacular views of the coastline, and the Kitekite Falls is a popular short hike that leads to a beautiful multi-tiered waterfall where visitors can swim in natural pools.Piha has a small, laid-back local community and is a popular weekend getaway for Aucklanders. There are a few cafés, a surf club, and accommodation options ranging from beachside houses to campgrounds. The west coast of New Zealand is known for its wild, untamed beauty, and Piha embodies this with its rough seas, jagged cliffs, and windswept atmosphere. It’s a perfect spot for photography, beach walks, and simply taking in the rugged scener. Piha Beach is known for its strong rip currents, so it’s important for visitors to swim between the lifeguard-patrolled flags. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months, and warning signs are posted to alert visitors about dangerous swimming conditions.
Piha Beach is about a 45-minute drive from Auckland city, making it a convenient day trip for those looking to experience New Zealand’s dramatic west coast. Whether you’re a surfer, hiker, or simply a nature lover, Piha offers a unique and unforgettable coastal experience.

When I arrived in Auckland in the morning, after staying at the hotel, my friends were not sleepy. After lunch break, we drove to Bird Island, which is more than 50 kilometers from Auckland,
small science:
mu Muriwai and Piha, two beaches connected to the outskirts of Auckland, New Zealand, Muriwai is known as the seabird island, one of the few gannet habitats in the world; Piha Black Beach It is famous for its rare black sand beaches, and is famous for its "Piano Love" movie at the 46th Cannes Film Festival Golden Palm Awards. The beautiful beaches have been hailed by the National Geographic magazine as one of the top 30 beauty in the world.
Winter there are not many birds here, but the beach is really black and black, stepping on the soft, a lot of surfers, I am shaking and looking at it in the evening. The temperature is only about 8 degrees.
Bird Island (Muriwai, Muriwai) is located 45 kilometers west of Auckland and climbs to a nearby hilltop where you can see the Gannet Watchtower. Since we didnt have a lot of birds at the time, we went straight to the black beach to watch the sunset.
