Old streets and ancient lanes, blue bricks and black tiles, half is the shore and half is the river
A citywalk unique to Changzhou begins here. There is water in the river, and there are houses on the shore, leisurely Qingguo Lane, walking in the literature and art. The ubiquitous white walls and gray tiles, horse head walls are particularly pleasing in the autumn leaves, this is Changzhou's urban aesthetics. At the corner of the street, there is authentic Changzhou snack Qingguo Lane shrimp cake, and at the next intersection, there is a top yellow crab xiaolongbao. Not only the scenery, even the food is full of the imprint of the years. Ming and Qing architecture, small bridges and flowing water in the south of the Yangtze River. The ancient Wu culture is precipitated, and the afternoon passes quickly. This is the most charming place of citywalk, you never know what will attract your attention in the next second. Why not find a good afternoon, stroll in Qingguo Lane, and feel the historical charm of the city in the relaxed tour.
LIONEL BAILEY
The old alley changed for a new look, but I always wanted to come but I was too lazy to act. Just take the 11th holiday and go back to my hometown to take a trip. It is quite convenient to take a taxi. I never knew how to have this lane before? People are not too much to explode, but they can slowly walk and watch. This is a historical cultural lane, and there are many celebrities. There are Liu Shiyong, the famous anti-Yuan in the late Song Dynasty, Tang Jingchuan, the Ming Dynasty writer, Qian Weicheng, Qi Hongyi, Tang Yu, the pioneer of the Westernization Movement, Sheng Xuanhuai, and Li Boyuan, a novelist at the beginning of the Republic. Models, Wang Zuoqi, etc., are the cradle of these literati. Go to the cafe on your head for a drink. After walking down, I found that there are a lot of teahouses here, and the decoration seems to be quite good. I have no time to try it. After the renovation, it is indeed a bit of a scenic spot. I feel that it should be a lot of money. It combines Wenchuang, retail, homestay, and light meals. After a while, I should feel better at night. Walk along the river and experience it. Very good, compared with the ancient town of Jiangnan, not so noisy, more humanities.

Qingguo Lane, known as the "Number One Lane of Distinguished Scholars in the South of the Yangtze River"
Qingguo Lane, formerly known as "Thousand Fruit Lane", is one of the ancient streets of Changzhou, established before the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1581), and is reputed as the "Number One Lane of Distinguished Scholars in the South of the Yangtze River".
Qingguo Lane is located in the southern part of the central area of the old town of Changzhou, bordered by the ancient canal to the south, starting from Zhengsu Lane in the east, extending to Jinling Middle Road in the west, leading directly to the Nan Street commercial center in the south, and reaching the ancient village in the north. The entire district is approximately 400 meters long from east to west and about 200 meters long from north to south, covering an area of about 8.7 hectares.
In 2014, the People's Government of Jiangsu Province announced it as a historical and cultural district.
Qingguo Lane is one of the ancient streets of Changzhou. It was established before the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1581), when the canal entered from Wenheng Bridge to the West Water Gate, passed through the east and west Xiaotang, and meandered eastward after crossing the city from the East Water Gate. Qingguo Lane faced the canal section of the city, and at that time, ships gathered there, making it a distribution center for fruits from the north and south. Fruit shops of various kinds were opened along the coast, and it was formerly known as "Thousand Fruit Lane". The "Changzhou Fu" states: "Enter the lane of a thousand fruits, where peaches, plums, apricots, and cherries are all displayed in various colors." Later, the canal was rerouted, but the name of the lane was retained. In the Changzhou dialect, "thousand" and "green" are hard to distinguish, hence the name "Qingguo Lane".
KAYLIE ROWE
Qingguo Lane, scented with gardenia, is the most famous check-in spot in Changzhou
It is said that one step into Qingguo Lane is half the history of Changzhou. Qingguo Lane used to be the number one lane for scholars in the south of the Yangtze River, where almost all the celebrities of Changzhou have lived. The first phase is still relatively well-preserved with ancient buildings, and there are also ancient street ruins, which are covered with glass so that you can see them on the ground. The second phase is basically commercialized with various shops. It's mainly about visiting the first phase, which takes about ten minutes to walk to the end. If you take your time to take photos, half an hour is also enough. At night, there are light wall projections;

Changzhou Qingguo Alley, a must-visit for Changzhou tourism and travel guides
A single Qingguo Alley encapsulates half the history of the Dragon City.
Every city has an old street that has witnessed the passage of time and the vicissitudes of prosperity. Qingguo Alley carries the memories and sentiments of generations of locals. After a century of accumulation and four years of renovation, it has been rejuvenated.
The opening day of Qingguo Alley was initially marked by continuous heavy rain, but fortunately, the rain lessened in the afternoon. Arriving at Qingguo Alley at three o'clock, the lingering drizzle actually added a hazy charm to this quaint long street.
On the first day of its opening, and also a weekday, I thought there wouldn't be too many people. Unexpectedly, the enthusiasm of the city's residents was undeterred by the rain, especially the older generation of visitors. Many were reminiscing: 'Oh, this is the bluestone road we walked on when we were young... Oh, before...'
The Qingguo Alley district is located to the south of the Grand Canal, with houses along the water, white walls, and black tiles, mainly featuring architecture from the Ming, Qing, and Republic of China periods. The ancient street houses the former residences of Changzhou literati such as Zhou Youguang, Liu Guojun, and Tang Jingchuan, as well as temples, opera towers, and more. I believe it is their presence that underpins the profound cultural heritage of Qingguo Alley.
Before visiting, I was worried that Qingguo Alley might be overly commercialized like many other old streets and ancient towns. Although there must be some shops to boost tourism and add a warm touch of life, fortunately, these shops seem to tell different stories, with extremely elegant names: Qinglian Tavern, Hejiu, Hanyue Residence, Xuan'an Residence, Flavor of Mountains and Seas, Jiangshan Tea House, Academy, Restaurants, Taverns, and more. There are also many old Changzhou brands and cultural and creative brands. Each shop has a proper signboard, and both the interior and exterior decorations are uniquely elegant and simple, without the noise and clamor or even the glitz and glamour often found in other ancient towns. It seems that no matter how crowded it gets, it remains peaceful and leisurely, just like the image of a Jiangnan water town in my mind.
Perhaps the renovation project of Qingguo Alley was carried out with such dedication, and the shop owners also operate with emotion, creating an authentic ancient street atmosphere without much flashy modern commercial decoration.
I hope it remains as elegant and peaceful as it is now, yet full of life and human warmth. May all visitors cherish the environment here.
On the opening day, many shops were not yet open for business, and there was not enough time to explore. I will find another time to savor it in detail and to experience the warmth and depth of the night scene.
Regarding photography, the scene that comes to mind should involve wearing a cheongsam, holding an oil-paper umbrella, accompanied by the silky drizzle... It would be great to take pictures with a DSLR when there are fewer tourists, but it's quite inconvenient when it's crowded and rainy. Unfortunately, on the opening day, it was only about ten degrees, and the cheongsam was not warm enough. The only thing I found in the closet that had a cheongsam collar was a top with a light blue-gray plaid skirt, paired with a pair of retro-style nude pointed heels, which wasn't too out of place.
Hurry and have an encounter with Qingguo Alley~ Stroll through the courtyards to watch fish and admire flowers, to search for colorful times, to reminisce about the flavors of memory... In the 400-meter-long tunnel of time, there will always be a moment that fills you with joy, a scene that evokes the poetry and distance in your heart. Changzhou finally has a new face of beauty, a new tourist check-in spot. I hope more friends will not miss our Qingguo Alley when they visit Changzhou, and may it always remain as beautiful as when we first saw it...

Why not visit the neighboring small town CITY WALK when Suzhou is too crowded?
Changzhou, also known as Dragon City, why not take a trip to Dragon City in the Year of the Dragon?
Picture 1-3, Hongmei Park. The number one garden in Changzhou, with cultural relics such as Hongmei Pavilion and Wenbi Tower. It is the season when the red plum blossoms are in full bloom, and you can take as many photos as you like without reservation, no admission fee, and no crowds!
Picture 4-5, Qingguo Alley. The number one alley of scholars in the south of the Yangtze River, this alley of just over 300 meters has produced more than 100 scholars! The preservation of old buildings is also quite good, with old houses and small courtyards. Take a walk and explore the cultural veins of this geomantic treasure.
Picture 6-8, Changzhou Museum. Compared to the Suzhou Museum, the Changzhou Museum is not large in size, and there are not many long-term exhibitions, but there are still many interesting things to see. In the Year of the Dragon, it's also interesting to look for the dragon brick in the Dragon City Museum.
Picture 9-11, when you come to Changzhou, you must visit the Tenghua Old Hall, now also known as the Su Dongpo Memorial Hall, where Su Dongpo spent the last part of his life. The courtyard is small but quaint, with wisteria, plum blossoms, and a Song dynasty well. Spend some quiet time here and reflect on the ups and downs of Su Dongpo's life and his spirit, and you are sure to gain some insight. There is also a large area of old houses near the memorial hall, which you can also visit if you have time.
Picture 12-13, how can you not stroll through the local old communities at citywalk? Qingliang New Village, Worker's New Village, and Hongmei New Village contain the most authentic local life and hide countless gourmet eateries. Wander through the alleys, dine in the restaurants, stop and go, and try living a day as a local in Changzhou.

The most low-key city in the free shipping area, it's so suitable for taking kids out for a walk
Changzhou has a long history and profound cultural heritage. It has been known as the 'important auxiliary of Central Wu and the famous city of Eight Yi'. Now it is synonymous with Dinosaur Park, hot springs, and Maoshan. In fact, there are very few tourists in Changzhou city, and the historical blocks are close to each other, which is especially suitable for taking kids out for a walk.
🚶♀️First stop
Changzhou Cake Shop
An old brand that has been on CCTV, and also a breakfast canteen that many old Changzhou people have eaten since childhood. There are many kinds of food inside, and the prices are low. You can buy traditional Changzhou snacks such as 'big hemp cake', 'crab xiaolong', and 'tofu soup'...
💡The food here is very suitable for children, just buy it with your eyes closed!
🚶♀️Second stop
Qianhou Beian
After breakfast, it is recommended to go to Qingguo Lane, Nanshi River, Qianhou Beian and other historical old city areas to stroll around. Compared with Wuxi and Suzhou, there are fewer tourists in the old streets here, which is rare and leisurely.
The streets and alleys in this area are narrow and quiet, with pink walls and black tiles, and large courtyards are typical of Ming and Qing Jiangnan residential style.
💡Most importantly, these scenic spots have been upgraded and transformed, which is very suitable for pushing baby carriages, and it is baby-friendly!
🚶♀️Third stop
Qingguo Lane
If you only have one day in Changzhou, I strongly recommend Qingguo Lane Historical and Cultural Street, where you can learn history, see culture, gain knowledge, take photos and relax.
The commercialization model here is very trendy, different from the uniform food streets and jewelry cheongsam shops in those ancient towns. Their presentation is very harmonious, and the shops are carefully considered from the appearance to the interior, which is very in line with this precious block.
Nearby there is a famous stall where you can buy Changzhou's most famous snack 'shrimp cake'.
💡Because these scenic spots are in the old city, and there is no gate, they are open 24 hours a day for free. There are also many locals taking their children out for a walk, and the overall atmosphere is very good~
🚶♀️Fourth stop
Half Mountain Bookstore
The Half Mountain Bookstore in the shopping mall next to these scenic spots is worth checking in. You can buy many books about Changzhou's local customs, and a whole wall of books that is four stories high is also good for taking pictures.
💡Children can rest here for a while, read some picture books by themselves, which may be more suitable for children than coffee shops📖

Changzhou Qingguo Lane | The first lane of Jiangnan literati in the world
A Qingguo Lane, half of Changzhou's history. Qingguo Lane was also called Qian Guo Lane in the old days, 'Entering the lane of a thousand fruits, peaches, plums, apricots, and cherries are all present.' Due to the dialectal difficulty in distinguishing 'thousand' and 'green', 'Qingguo Lane' was born. One of Changzhou's ancient streets and lanes, it was built before the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty and has the reputation of being the 'first lane of Jiangnan literati'.
Business hours: Open 24 hours, tickets: free
P Parking: Underground parking lot
Public transportation: Walk 310 meters from Exit 5B of the Cultural Palace Station on Subway Line 1.
The Qingguo Lane block is divided into the first phase of the old street, along the canal, mainly based on ancient buildings, including former residences, bridge houses, docks, banks, ancient wells, stages, bookstores, and various tea rooms, etc. The second phase is the newly built commercial and cultural area, in addition to the old buildings, it also integrates new art, modern sculptures, light art, characteristic literary and art markets, and various internet-famous foods.
!!! Travel suggestions: Qingguo Lane is very close to attractions such as Banshan Bookstore, Hongmei Park, Tianning Zen Temple, etc., and it is very convenient to walk or ride.

Old streets and ancient lanes, pink walls and black tiles, half is the shore, half is the river, there is water in the river, there are homes on the shore.
Qingguo Lane Wenqi Hotel is named after the cultural habitat and the place where the soul is anchored. Located on the east side of the historical and cultural block Qingguo Lane, it is a delicate luxury hotel that integrates the characteristics of Jiangnan ancient lanes, Zhongwu culture, and Changzhou elements.
The Culinary Explorer s Journey
A day trip to Changzhou
A day trip to Changzhou, staying in Qingguo Lane, you can start your morning run from Qingguo Lane, and in less than two kilometers, you can reach Bijixiang, a place mentioned in Dream of the Red Chamber. Qingguo Night Scene
Every city has such a district, named after historical culture, but actually engaged in commercial development. Wuhan has Hubu Lane, Changsha has Furong Street, Nanjing has Confucius Temple, Suzhou has Shantang Street, Wuxi has Qingming Bridge, Huzhou has Clothing Street, Zhenjiang has Xijin Ferry, Changzhou has Qingguo Lane.
From the early 1980s to the beginning of this century, the old city of Changzhou was almost demolished once, and Qingguo Lane is the only remaining historical and cultural block in the central city of Changzhou. The district starts from Heping Middle Road in the east, to Jinling Middle Road in the west, south to the Black Peony factory area, and north to the ancient village lane. Within the 12.6-hectare range, there are 11 cultural protection units at all levels, 17 historical buildings, more than 10 ancient wells, and a continuous area of Jiangnan residences.
A Qingguo Lane, half of Changzhou's history. Qingguo Lane is the cultural vein of Changzhou, known as the "First Lane of Jiangnan Scholars". More than a hundred imperial scholars have walked out of here, and it has nurtured many celebrities such as Tang Jingchuan, Qu Qiubai, Zhou Youguang, Zhao Yuanren, Shi Liang, Liu Guojun, etc., covering politics, literature, art, education, industry, science and other fields.
In 2012, Qingguo Lane started renovation, closed for more than six years, and opened for visit in 2019. It is said that in order to preserve the original appearance, the restoration of thousands of houses in Qingguo Lane went through detailed surveying, historical research, consultation, scheme design, expert review, renovation construction and many other procedures, and each group had different renovation schemes. However, the renovated Qingguo Lane is still too new, and the so-called second phase of Qingguo Lane has exposed the ambition of the investment group's large-scale commercial development.
Cultural relics are not only a house or a temple, but also carry rich historical information. Keeping the district's style and repairing the old as the old is the most basic principle of cultural relic renovation. Demolishing real cultural relics and building new fake ones is a blasphemy against history and a fooling of future generations.

Qingguo Lane in Changzhou, a good place to visit on weekends
Qingguo Lane, one of the ancient streets in Changzhou, was built before the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1581). At that time, the canal entered the West Water Gate from Wenheng Bridge, passed through the East and West Lower Ponds, passed through the city and out of the East Water Gate, winding eastward. Qingguo Lane faced the canal section of the city, where ships gathered at that time. It was a distribution center for fruits from the north and the south. Various fruit shops were set up along the coast, and it was once known as "Qian Guo Lane". The "Changzhou Fu" says: "Enter the lane of a thousand fruits, where peaches, plums, apricots, and cherries are all displayed." Later, the canal was redirected, but the name of the lane is still preserved today. The Changzhou dialect is difficult to distinguish between "thousand" and "green", hence the current name "Qingguo Lane".

Fine weather
It's very quiet here, time flows slowly
Stone bridge, flowing water, small boat
Each is idle
Basking in the sun, seeking autumn rhyme by the river
