There is a Confucian temple in Tongzhou, which has an earlier history than the Confucius Temple in Beijing.
🌻➰---- Tongzhou ----➰🌻
First, let's talk about Tongzhou, which is very important in history. It used to be called Lushui and Luxian. Later, in the Jin Dynasty, the state government was established. Because the grain transport was very smooth, it was called Tongzhou. This is the only way for the southern grain transport to the capital. After Yuan Shizu asked Guo Shoujing to open the Tonghui River from Dadu to Tongzhou, Tongzhou became a very important grain transport hub and gradually developed into a fairly large city.
🌻➰---- Daguang Tower ----➰🌻
After admiring the Qianhe Leakage Bridge, you will see a building along the river called Daguang Tower. This Daguang Tower was called "Grain Inspection Tower" in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is one of the most historic landmarks on the north side of the canal. At present, the building cannot be visited, and you can only take a look from the outside.
🌻➰---- Three Religions Temple ----➰🌻
The Three Religions Temple includes the Wenmiao of Confucianism, the Youshengjiao Temple of Buddhism and the Ziqing Palace of Taoism. These three temples are arranged side by side beside the wall on the west side of the Tongzhou Prefecture Government Office, forming a "品" shape.
It is said that floods often occurred in Tongzhou during the rainy season in ancient times. According to the customs and beliefs at that time, in the late Northern Zhou Dynasty, the Relics Pagoda of the Buddha Dipankara was built on the high hill where four rivers meet, not far from the west bank of the Lu River, to suppress the river gods and quell the floods. The Youshengjiao Temple under the tower is said to have been built earlier than the Relics Pagoda of the Buddha Dipankara.
The Ziqing Palace of Taoism was built in the middle of the Ming Dynasty and dedicated to the Taishang Laojun. Because the Red Boy painted on the wall of the temple is vivid and lifelike, everyone calls it the Red Boy Temple.
The Wenmiao was founded in the second year of the Yuan Dynasty (1298), four years earlier than the Confucius Temple in Beijing. This Confucian Temple was rebuilt and expanded 22 times during the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. By the ninth year of the Guangxu period, it had become the largest Confucian Temple in Beijing, except for the Confucius Temple in Beijing.
