5-Star Sands & City Charm! ️
Swansea Beach isn't your average British beach. It's a vibrant tapestry woven from golden sands, rolling waves, and a city heartbeat, offering something for everyone. Imagine strolling along a 5-mile stretch of soft sand, the Swansea Marina shimmering on one side and the charming Mumbles village peeping at you from the other. Breathe in the crisp sea air, feel the sun warm your face, and let the rhythm of the waves serenade your soul.♂️
Sun, Sand, and City Buzz:
My exploration began at the bustling heart of the beach, near the marina. Families frolicked in the shallows, building sandcastle empires and giggling as waves chased their toes. Kayaks danced on the water, their colorful sails adding a playful touch to the azure canvas. The promenade thrummed with life, lined with cafes serving creamy Welsh cakes and ice cream cones that melted faster than you could say "diolch" (thank you!).
As I ventured further, the beach transformed into a haven of tranquility. Golden sands stretched endlessly, inviting lazy strolls and contemplative barefoot walks. The rhythmic whoosh of the waves became my soundtrack, punctuated by the occasional cry of a seagull soaring overhead. I felt the tension melt away, replaced by a sense of serenity that only the ocean can bring.
Beyond the Beach:
But Swansea Beach is more than just the sun and sand. It's a gateway to adventure. For the adrenaline junkies, there's surfing at Langland Bay, just a short drive away. Kayaking enthusiasts can explore the hidden coves and rocky outcrops around Mumbles. And for history buffs, the Oystermouth Castle, perched on a cliff overlooking the bay, whispers tales of medieval times.
Mumbles Magic:
Speaking of Mumbles, this charming village deserves a special mention. Quaint shops selling local crafts line the narrow streets, while cozy cafes tempt you with their aroma of freshly baked pastries. I indulged in a delicious Welsh cream tea, the warm scones and clotted cream melting on my tongue as I gazed out at the endless blue horizon.
#TravelTip: If you're planning a visit, don't miss the National Waterfront Museum, which delves into Swansea's maritime history. And for a truly Welsh experience, try "laverbread" – a seaweed delicacy that might surprise your taste buds!
Swansea Beach has something for everyone. Don't miss it!

Rhossili Bay Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Rhossili Bay
#thingstodo
First time in the Gower and we headed straight for Rhossili bay, it is a stunning area and well worth a visit (or two. A lovely walk along the cliffs toward Wormshead gives you fantastic views so have your camera at the ready or if you go the other way you climb down the cliffs to the long sandy beach where you can walk and walk and walk, seemingly as if there is hardly anybody else around.
The area is National trust so the car part is free to NT members and there is a NT shop there for you to peruse before or after your adventure.
Take a picnic or eat in either the Wormshead hotel or one of the cafes there...plenty to choose from.
Its nice to just sit and enjoy the views at the top by the car park. Note that the climb to the beach is quite a trek down (and up) so make sure you are up to it before starting your journey down.
Plenty of photos on other reviews already...they speak for themselves.
We stayed just a couple of hours and just walked along the cliff and not down to the beach, but you still get great views/ experience. Quite busy even on a September weekday, but plenty of overflow parking. £3 for 2 hours. Pleasantly surprised to see the ponies wandering around the cliff, but by coincidence there is an article on BBC news today, that the farmer is considering removing them as some members of the public are being irresponsible, when taking pictures etc and frightening/stressing them. Plus problems with dogs and kids getting kicked by standing behind them.
Four different options for food/drink. A NT cate, a hotel/pub and two cafes.
Plus toilets.

Swansea & Rhossili
Take the train from Bristol to Swansea. Swansea is such a magical place, with so many busy commercial beaches to visit, it's even more appealing to be here in a peaceful cove all to yourself.
Take the bus from Swansea to Rhossili Bay. It was very windy, but the views were beautiful. In the evening we saw the sun set over Rhossili Bay. It has a quiet and peaceful feel to it, perfect for sitting and enjoying with friends or loved ones. After the sunset, Roseland Bay is a bit dark, with a film filter, which is perfect for taking photos.
