Just had a royal experience at Euxinograd Palace in Varna! 🏰 The entrance fee, 6 leva, felt like a regal investment for exploring this seaside beauty. #EuxinogradPalace #VarnaRoyalty
The palace, set against the Black Sea, is a stunning example of architectural elegance. The manicured gardens, fountains, and the sea breeze create a perfect blend of history and nature. 🌺🌊
After strolling through the palace grounds, I visited the nearby Evxinograd Park. The walking trails and lush greenery make it an idyllic spot for a leisurely afternoon. 🚶♀️🌳
Hungry? Head to the palace's restaurant for some exquisite Bulgarian cuisine. The panoramic views of the sea add an extra layer of indulgence to the dining experience. 🍲🍷
In summary, Euxinograd Palace is a must-visit for those captivated by historic estates and seaside charm. It's a delightful retreat, offering a glimpse into Bulgaria's aristocratic past. #PalaceEscape #SeasideSplendor

Roman Thermae Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
@ THE ROMAN THERMAE!
The Roman Thermae (Bulgarian: Римски терми, Rimski termi) are a complex of Ancient Roman baths (thermae) in the Black Sea port city of Varna in northeastern Bulgaria. The Roman Thermae are situated in the southeastern part of the modern city, which under the Roman Empire was known as Odessus. The baths were constructed in the late 2nd century AD and rank as the fourth-largest preserved Roman thermae in Europe and the largest in the Balkans.
Ancient Varna, first a Thracian settlement and then an Ancient Greek colony, became part of the Roman Empire in 15 AD and was assigned to the province of Moesia with a certain degree of local autonomy. The Roman baths of Varna were built towards the end of the 2nd century and remained in use for about a hundred years, till the late 3rd century.[1] Coins of Roman emperor Septimius Severus (r. 193–211) have been discovered among the bath ruins.
Much later, in the 14th century, the ruins of the Roman Thermae were the site of craftsmen's workshops

Roman Baths
#bucketlistreboot
The Romans established them as means for people to use them as public baths. These baths particularly were conceived to be one of the largest in this province. Built in the 2nd century A.D. they were functional for the next 100 years. They offered everything from changing rooms to cold water and warm baths, steam rooms and also relax areas. Not that much different you’d say from today’s modern concept of a spa. We felt fairly intrigued to see they also had under floor heating. It was interesting to see a cross-section of such a floor and how the mechanism worked.

Hotel & Casino Cherno More Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Hotel with amazing views in Varna
#eurotrip #citybreakeurope #hotel #hotelviews
Varna is for sure an all round destination. Anything from great attractions to excellent restaurants and bars, this city has it all. A safe destination for families and solo travellers with very hospitable people, Varna is a city worth considering at least for a day trip for anyone looking to do their summer holiday on the Bulgarian Riviera.
On this occasion, we chose to stay at the famous Cherno More Hotel & Casino. The hotel offers ok rooms however, the view is stunning. The tower aspect of the hotel means, all rooms will get a good view of the sea and the city skyline.
Would certainly return to this hotel again.

Aladzha Monastery Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
@ ALADZHA MONASTERY!
Aladzha Monastery is situated in a beautiful area 14 km north of Varna, near Zlatni Pyasatsi Resort (Golden Sands Resort), in the centre of Zlatni Pyasatsi Nature Park (Golden Sands Nature Park). There are no reliable historical records as to when the monastery was established, but there is evidence that it already existed in the 10th – 12th centuries.
Aladzha Monastery is one of the few cave monasteries in Bulgaria where the different premises and their functions are clearly distinguishable. The monastery premises are carved and arranged on two levels in a limestone rock that is almost 40 m high. The monastery church, the monastery cells, the refectory, the kitchen, the small cemetery church, the crypt (ossuary), and the farm premises are all situated on the first level. The second level is a natural rock recess in the eastern part of which lies the monastery chapel.
A group of caves known as the Catacombs is located about 600 – 700 m to the west of the monastery. The archaeological finds such as pottery, coins, graffiti, etc. discovered there, provide evidence that the Catacombs were inhabited by people during the early-Christian Age (5th – 6th centuries).
After the Ottomans conquered Bulgaria at the end of the 14th century, Aladzha Monastery gradually fell into decline and was most likely completely abandoned around the 15th – 16th century.
The Christian name of the monastery is unknown. The word “aladzha” comes from Persian-Arabic and means “motley”, “variegated”. K. Shkorpil, the first person who did research in the monastery, recorded a legend according to which St. Spas (derived from the Bulgarian Hristos Spasitel – Christ the Saviour) was the patron saint of the cloister.
Nowadays Aladzha Monastery is a popular tourist attraction visited by thousands of tourists. The cave monastery is located in the centre of Zlatni Pyasatsi Nature Park, a protected area where rare tree species can be seen. The combination of beautiful scenery, historic and Christian landmarks makes this place perfect for cultural, religious and ecological tourism.
A unique audio-visual show called Legends of Aladzha Monastery has been taking place in the monastery since 2009. The monastery was declared a monument of architecture and construction of national importance by virtue of publication in State Gazette, issue No 16 of 1968.
The visitors of the monastery can also take a tour in a museum of miniature models. Souvenirs and information materials are sold there.

Aladzha Rock Monastery
#bucketlistreboot
It is a medieval Orthodox Christian cave monastery complex in north-eastern Bulgaria, 17 km north of central Varna and 3 km west of Golden Sands beach resort. The ticket also includes a visit to the nearby museum which tries to explain a bit more about this phenomena of stone carved monasteries across Bulgaria. It seemed fairly popular in the north-eastern part of the country. It’s another great way to break down your all-inclusive summer holiday and make a day trip and see something different. The monastery housed monks who were looking to retreat in solitude and prayer. The complex is carved in stone. They tried to carve different rooms and prayer halls. Once you climb to the top level where the chapel was, you’ll be greeted by an amazing view towards the sea. A must for any photo enthusiast!

Euxinograd Palace
#bucketlistreboot
Half way through the tour you’ll also see the summer residence of the Bulgarian Communist Party where their most notable dictator Todor Zhivkov used to go. We found the estate and overall the tour enjoyable, not at all fast paced and given Hristina is Bulgarian, we managed to even understand all the explanations. We recommend this as a side day trip for any of you looking to do your summer holidays in the nearby resorts. Note: the booking is not straight-forward as you need to send an email with your details and only upon a confirmation from them, you can consider your trip booked. They offer the trip in Bulgarian, English and Russian but at the time of our visit, it was Bulgarian only.
