Hiking and tubing along Nam Song river
Tubing along the beautiful Nam Song River is one of Vang Vieng's most popular activities (besides climbing). Once you get at the riverbank, you may rent a rubber tube for a modest charge and float down the river, which is lined with cafes and places to stop along the route.
You may even tube in front of a number of restaurants, avoiding the need to travel far and allowing you to spend the entire day floating around and taking in the spectacular yet quiet surroundings.

The 'Li River' of Laos - Nam Song River
Vang Vieng, a very small town in Laos, has become a hub for outdoor activities thanks to its karst topography that forms numerous small peaks, the 'Li River'-like Nam Song River, and the blue lagoons... Activities such as hot air ballooning, paragliding, cave tubing, kayaking, mountain biking, road go-karting, and blue lagoon diving have flourished, but the most attractive is still the Nam Song River.
The houses along the Nam Song River, set against the backdrop of the karst landscape, are particularly charming. The river flows swiftly, often stirring up waves, but it is not deep, mostly covered with pebbles, making it very clear. Even without engaging in any activities, just drifting along is absolutely comfortable.
However, it is best to avoid the midday sun.
Laos | Outdoor Paradise Vang Vieng
From Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng, I finally feel like I'm in Southeast Asia.
❤Reason for recommendation:
Most travelers come to Vang Vieng for its beautiful mountains and waters and a wealth of outdoor activities.
Hot air balloons, paragliding, go-karts, zip lines, cave exploration, diving, kayaking, tire drifting, no matter the age or gender, the love for fun will be released here.
👍Most recommended:
The caves here are not overly developed and maintain their original state. The exploration of the caves is full of unknown adventures with only headlamps for lighting.
👍Most recommended:
If you think the kayaking arranged by the travel agency is just a simple paddle and photo session, you're mistaken. This is a project that requires skill and physical strength, a real hour of hard rowing.
🌟Highlight:
Diving requires courage. Standing on a 5-meter diving platform is indeed daunting, but bravely jumping down will win applause from the surrounding spectators.

Vang Vieng Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Laos is a small and peaceful country with epic landscapes. One afternoon we set off on a hike and caught this view before the sun went down,
Amari Vang Vieng Hotel Laos, nice place, great food, good location and great service in Vang Vieng city.
Wanrong magical caves, actually sitting in the tires!
After watching this elephant stalactite, we walked along the village and crossed the field to the edge of the cave. The caves here are all three-dimensional play mode. Yes, people can play in the air and cross the stream below. We can sit in the tires and slide into the cave. There was a rope pulling in the cave. Before that, I thought that we were just drifting in. The spring was very cold, and the buttocks were sitting inside the tires, and the backs were cold. The cobblestones on the ground stepped on the feet until the ropes were held and began to float into the bottomless caves, and everything became nervous and irritating. Slowly, no light can be seen. We can only rely on the lights above our heads and the shouts of our companions. As if to degenerate into a cave creature, the stalactites next to it are still very smooth, as long as the head does not touch it, and other places will basically not be scratched. Holding the rope all the way to the inside, it is still very fast to the source, the source is directly pebbles. There is a cave here that is very exciting and we need to bend over to enter. After entering, you will see a lot of pebbles stacked, this is not a magical natural landscape. Its all human beings, Ive seen it in Everest, and I feel that all humans will do something strange in the extreme. So do you want to stack a little stone in the absence of oxygen?
Wanrong is already a tourist city in Laos and has a high reputation abroad. For most people, it is still very small. However, there are more Chinese people in Wanrong. They are all doing business there, and by the way, they open an inn.
Van Rong's accommodation is mainly based on family hotels and built along the river. The best thing to do at Wanrong is to drift in the Mekong River, or to row. We played at the Four Thousand Islands, and I gave up in order not to let the coach continue to laugh at me.
The most interesting thing in Wanrong is to take a hot air balloon. Although the number and scenery of the ball cannot be compared with Cappadocia, it is also poetic to look down on the landscape in high altitude.
When landing, there are many children to help. The bosses used to give them a little snack. I gave them the candy they brought from Cambodia. Everyone was very happy.

Tham Phu Kham Cave and Blue Lagoon Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
At the end of the cave there is a lagoon
Tham Phu Kham Cave is close by, as is Blue Lagoon 1. Travelers in Vang Vieng have long practiced hurling themselves into this small turquoise lake set in a verdant woodland just outside town. There are several options for doing so, including from the lake's shore, tree platforms, a waterslide, or a rope swing. What are your plans following that? Not much; lie in the sun with dozens of other travelers, relax in the lake, or zip line through the trees for something a little more thrilling.

When we arrived, we first visited the caves and I was surprised by how few people were in the cave with us, considering how many people we saw at the Blue Lagoon. After about an hour visiting the cave, we enjoyed a nice riverside lunch and then swam and jumped into the Blue Lagoon.

Blue lagoon 1
Blue lagoon 1 has a really nice cave that is a short but steep walk up! Definitely worth it as the cave itself is huge and some much to explore
Laos Tour Part Two: Unique Natural Scenery
*Laos Tour Part Two: Unique Natural Scenery*
Laos' diverse geographical environment has created unique natural scenery.
Although I only passed by in a hurry, several landscapes left a deep impression.
~~~~~
From Vientiane to Vang Vieng, about 60 kilometers by car, the road gradually becomes steep, the trees become dense, and a vast body of water suddenly appears under the roadside cliff.
Surrounded by mountains and trees, the reservoir is like a sea; the boundless blue water is connected to the sky; there are three hundred green islands scattered like stars.
This is a reservoir built downstream of the Nam Ngum River, named Nam Ngum Lake, also known as Thousand Island Lake. For the inland Laotians, Nam Ngum Lake is the sea in their eyes.
~~~~~
Vang Vieng is famous for its beautiful natural landscapes, which are as beautiful and charming as jade.
The swimming pool of the hotel in the early morning reflects the mountains, and many Chinese people can't help but exclaim: "It's just like the landscape of Guilin!"
The Nam Ngum River under the sunset, with boats shuttling and sparkling waves. The mountains are like silhouettes pasted on the horizon, showing more charm and grace.
Vang Vieng has many caves, wide or narrow, bright or dark, with staggered layers of caves, strange stalactites, and intermittent streams. It's like an adventure to visit the caves in their original state.
The water flowing out of the Tham Poukham Cave converges into a lake at the foot of the mountain; the lake water is rich in copper ions and appears blue, hence the name "Blue Lagoon".
The water flows slowly, winding and bending, and the big trees on both sides are like giant umbrellas. On the grass, cool pavilions, stone banks, and small bridges, most of them are leisure tourists from Europe and South Korea.
The sunset, tree shadows, and lake water reflect each other, mixing blue, green, and golden into indescribable gorgeous colors.
Unable to resist the temptation of the beautiful water, some people tied swings on the tree trunks and swayed on the lake water; some people simply jumped into the lake to swim and play.
A huge branch of a hundred-year-old banyan tree has become a natural diving platform. Under the cheers of the tourists, handsome men and beautiful women of various skin colors started to dive in different styles.
Of course, I can't miss this good scenery and water, so I also jumped into the lake and played in the water.
The lake water is cool, blue and clear, and the feet are deep and bottomless; the fish swim around, touching the skin, and scatter as soon as they touch.
The landscapes of Vang Vieng gave me an unprecedented experience.
~~~~~
Kuang Si Falls is located in the mountains 29 kilometers south of Luang Prabang, the ancient capital of Laos.
Here, the rainforest vegetation is lush, with towering trees, ground covered with weeds, and wild flowers dotted in between.
The waterfall is about 200 meters high, triangular in shape, and the water splashes and falls between the rocks, like a white silk dancing vigorously. It is said that it is more spectacular to see it in the rainy season.
I think the unique beauty of Kuang Si Falls is largely due to the layered and winding waterway.
The bottom stone of the waterway is yellow and white and smooth, and the water flow is crystal clear and blue. The water flows together and apart, sometimes rushing like a waterfall, sometimes slowly accumulating into a pool.
There are three places where the pool is wide and deep, becoming natural swimming pools. People splash and play in the water, adding some liveliness to this quiet deep mountain.
The unique landscape is like Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou, but the scattered banyan trees and towering coconut trees remind me that this is a foreign country.
Exploring the gorgeous Tham Jang
Tham Jang is one of Vang Vieng's most well-known caverns, having played a significant role in Laos' history. When the Chinese conquered Vang Vieng in the 19th century, this cave served as an army bunker, so history aficionados should make a point of visiting it. You will have to trek up a steep set of steps to enter the cave, but it is well worth the extra effort. To be honest, upon visiting this beautiful cave my perspective changed. It was very memorable. Wait, there is also a river where you can splurge, it’s Crystal clear!
