Mixed Experience – Some Great Aspects but Room for Improvement We recently stayed at the Novotel Cambridge North and had a mixed experience. The hotel has a lot going for it—modern facilities, a good location just north of the city centre, and excellent breakfast options that really stood out. The pool area is great for kids, and the sauna and jacuzzi were enjoyable touches that added value to our stay. However, there were a few letdowns. While staff were generally friendly, some follow-through was lacking—for example, we requested dressing gowns and slippers, and refills of the shower gel and shampoo which were promised but never delivered. The hotel uses a strange single-use key card system for the leisure facilities, which caused repeated issues. Cards were frequently deactivated, leaving guests locked out of the pool and gym areas. We often had to rely on others to let us in, or vice versa, which became frustrating. Also worth noting: there is no on-site parking available, which should be clearly stated in advance for future guests. Overall, the hotel offers decent value for money, especially for families, and the convenient public transport links (bus and train) make it easy to get into the city. With some improvements in service and clearer communication, this could be an excellent place to stay

My stay this time was absolutely delightful! The hygiene was impeccable; the room was spotless with no odd smells, and the bedding and bathroom fixtures were gleaming as if brand new. The disinfection work was thoroughly done, which made me feel incredibly at ease. The service was a definite highlight—the front desk staff were warm and professional, processing my check-in quickly. The concierge proactively helped with my luggage, and any requests were addressed very promptly, making me feel truly cared for. The facilities were also excellent: the air conditioning worked great, the internet was fast, and the bathroom had a convenient wet/dry separation. Thoughtful details like the smart toilet and mini-fridge really enhanced the quality of my stay. Overall, it was an incredibly value-for-money experience, and I highly recommend it!

We had a lovely stay at this hotel — the location is excellent, just steps away from the Maths Bridge and a punting station, making it perfect for exploring Cambridge. The staff were warm and welcoming throughout, and the breakfast was delicious with a great variety. We also had a nice view from the balcony, which made the stay even more enjoyable. Would definitely stay again!

The hotel isn't in the city center; it's about a 30-minute walk or bus ride to downtown or the university area. However, it's very quiet here. If you're not driving, you have to walk through a large private garden (blocked by a wire fence) every time you leave, which takes about 7-8 minutes to exit. On the upside, it's cheaper than hotels in the city center. If budget isn't an issue, you could certainly opt for a 'fancier' hotel in the university area, which would naturally offer a better experience. Besides the university, the Fitzwilliam Museum is definitely worth a visit in Cambridge.

Quiet location, a local family restaurant is nearby. Room price is very very competitive! 10 minutes drive to city centre but just 5-7 minutes drive to Nene park which is great. Room renovation and breakfast buffet are the same as other Holiday Inn Express do. Food quality is expected and consistent. Shower water pressure was not very very strong but still acceptable.

Can’t beat the location — super convenient and close to everything I needed. That said, it felt a bit overpriced for what you actually get. The place was decent, but nothing really stood out to justify the higher cost. If location is your top priority, it’s a solid pick, but otherwise, there might be better value elsewhere.

Lovely hotel, in the centre of St Ives. Staff was very lovely and welcoming. As soon as I entered the room the fan was already on, it was lovely as that day was already very hot. Room clean and nice amenities. Very nice little buts for tea and the radio was a nice touch. The soaps were a nice and refreshing cucumber scent, very pleasant to shower or wash hands with. Breakfast was 10/10, not your typical buffers breakfast you get a menu and pick what you would like, so the meal was delicious and freshly cooked.
