Moshi Park Scenic Spot is located in Bamei Town, south of Daofu County. Naturally, it belongs to the northern end of the Daxue Mountains in the Hengduan Mountains. People usually call this scenic spot Bamei Stone Forest, but according to the professional definition, it has different names, emphasizing its tectonic function, and it is called "tectonic stone forest". There are many stone forests in the world, but most of them are karst stone forests and sandy stone forests. Stone forests formed by special geological landforms like Moshi Park Scenic Area are very rare. Looking at the scenic spot from a distance, you can tell it at a glance from the color tone. The stone forest is gray toned, and the mountains, woods, grasslands, and flowing water around it are colorful. These changeable colors are like the changing scenery of the stage, and also make the stone forest present different beauty in different seasons. In summer, the green hills are green and green, green grass and wild flowers are everywhere, and the stone forest is like a gem resting on a colorful carpet; in autumn, the mountains are full of golden withered grass, fiery red maple trees, and the stone forest seems to be reborn from the ashes.Daofu · 71.7km from downtown

Bamei Town, formerly the seat of Qianning County, boasts magnificent residences, integrating architecture, religion, culture, art, and ethnic customs. The scenery is dominated by plateau grasslands. If Xinduqiao is known as a "photographer's paradise," then Bamei's scenery surpasses it. The stunning beauty of the Bamei Earth and Stone Forest rivals the limestone karst stone forests of South China, but its geological origin, landscape characteristics, micro-geomorphology, and natural environment are unique. Similar mylonite earth and stone forests have not been reported in China or abroad. The Bamei Earth and Stone Forest landscape is located near the 36th Road Station of National Highway 317. It forms the Xianshui River Fault Zone, formed along the Kangding-Daofu-Luhuo line, and is most prominent near Bamei. The forest, set against the backdrop of vast meadows, rolling snow-capped mountains, charming Tibetan villages, and earth and stone forests, creates a breathtaking landscape. Huiyuan Temple is located in a small mountain basin between Bamei and Danba on Provincial Highway 303, at an altitude of 3,600 meters. Its meticulous layout and ornate architecture, imbued with local characteristics, make it a masterpiece of Kham architectural art. Yala Sacred Mountain, located southeast of Bamei Town, belongs to Huiyuan Temple. Its majestic peak, capped year-round with snow, is a sacred mountain revered by Huiyuan Temple and its surrounding communities.Daofu · 65km from downtown

Huiyuan Temple was built in the seventh year of Emperor Yongzheng's reign in the Qing Dynasty. At that time, the Mongolian Junggars invaded Tibet and the order in the Tibetan area was very chaotic. In order to ensure the safety of Kelsang Gyatso, the Qing government specially selected Ganning (formerly Taining), the lotus treasure land, to build a temple. The Qing government allocated treasury silver for the construction of temples, and used a large number of craftsmen and migrant workers to build magnificent, unique and resplendent temples. Huiyuan Temple has been rebuilt three times. The newly built temple is a palace-style gold-tiled roof, equipped with golden vases, Falun and beasts, painted paintings of emperors and generals of past dynasties, various Thangka paintings, and living Buddha statues on the eaves and purlins; relief sculptures Kowloon's Nine Lions Gate, with fat beams and fat columns, is beautifully laid out; the courtyard is spacious and rigorously laid out; the halls and courtyards are harmonious and decent. The building of the temple is gorgeous, with local characteristics, and it is a fine art of Kamba architecture. The temple now has a collection of various precious cultural relics. The Dujiangyan Irrigation System is located along the main branch of the Lancang River, west of Dujiangyan City. It was constructed in the Qin dynasty around 256 BC by Li Bing, Prefecture Chief of Shu County, and his son. It is one of the few ancient Chinese water conservancy projects that has remained preserved and intact. The project consists of three primary works—Yuzui Diverting Embankment, the Feishayan Spillway, and the Baopingkou Water Inlet, and two secondary works which include the Baizhangdi (the thousand-feet dam) and Renzidi (the y-shaped dam). They divide the Yongjiang River into an outer and an inner branch, the former of which is used to divert floods and the latter for irrigation. This has allowed the Western Sichuan plateau to become "the land of abundance" as we now know it.China · Dujiangyan

Dangling Village

Dangling Village is a Jiarong Tibetan village surrounded by snow-capped mountains, primitive forests, and alpine lakes. The village has an elevation of approx. 3,300 m, with highland barley fields, white stupas, and prayer flags dotted among Tibetan-style wooden houses, retaining a relatively primitive appearance. Its iconic scenery consists of alpine lakes scattered throughout the valley. Among them, Huluhai Lake is named for its gourd-like shape. It sits at an elevation of approx. 4,200 m with crystal-clear water, reflecting the 5,470 m-high Xiaqiangla Snow Mountain on the opposite shore. From the village, you need to pass through a primitive forest dense with fir and rhododendron trees, passing by the Feijiping Meadow andGanhaizi, and it takes several hours of hiking to arrive. You can also hire a local horse caravan or ride a motorcycle into the mountains. Continuing upward from Huluhai Lake for over an hour, you will reach Zhuoyongcuo Lake, which is shaped like a crescent moon and sits at an elevation of approx. 4,300 m. The trail conditions are more rugged, making it suitable for advanced hikers with good physical stamina. The colorful forests in the village usually appear in mid-to-late October, with fiery red maple leaves and golden larch trees framed alongside the azure lake water and snow-capped peaks. In May and June, rhododendrons bloom in large patches in the mountains. After returning from your hike, you can visit the natural hot springs deep in the forest near the village: the spring water is scalding hot and carries a sulfur scent, gathering into small pools with a comfortable temperature, with steam swirling among the fir trees.Danba · 29km from Daofu

Mount Qingcheng

33.9k reviews
Mount Qingcheng has long been praised as "Tranquil Paradise under Heaven," with its peaks encircling like city walls—hence the name. Legend says Zhang Daoling of the Eastern Han dynasty established Taoism here in a thatched hut, making it the ancestral home of Celestial Master Taoism, where temple incense still burns today. The mountain divides into front and back sections: the front features Taoist temples and cultural relics, commonly referred to as "Mount Qingcheng" by most travelers; the back excels in natural landscapes like pools, waterfalls, streams, and gorges, making it ideal for hiking and summer retreats. The highlights of Qianshan are concentrated. Starting from Jianfu Palace beside the mountain gate, follow the ancient stone steps upward past Natural Picture, Tianshi Cave, Chaoyang Cave, and Shangqing Palace, with the summit's Laojun Pavilion as the final vantage point. Tianshi Cave, also called Changdao Temple, is one of the mountain's largest Taoist complexes—its front courtyard holds a millennium-old ginkgo tree allegedly planted by Zhang Daoling, while the cliffside Ink-throwing Trough behind is said to be where the celestial master drew mountains with vermilion ink. Painting master Zhang Daqian once resided at Shangqing Palace, styling himself "Guest of Qingcheng." At the mountain's base, Yuecheng Lake's mirror-like waters add ethereal beauty to the lush greenery. The rear mountain entrance is the quaint Tai'an ancient town. From here, the trails connect Wulong gully and Feiquan gully into a loop, with views like Misty spring triple pools, Double spring water curtain cave, and Hundred-zhang long bridge accompanied by the sounds of water and shaded woods. The Longyin gorge walkway built along cliffs overlooks rushing streams below, making it a dedicated hiking route. The mountain stays pleasantly cool even in midsummer. The front mountain and back mountain entrances are not connected, usually requiring separate itineraries. Most 1-day tours choose one of the two. The front mountain's main temples can be visited in half a day, while the back mountain loop is longer and requires reserving most of a day. Travelers wishing to see the sunrise often ascend the mountain a day early, staying overnight at mountain temples for convenient morning viewing.China · Dujiangyan

It's worth a visit. After seeing so many high-altitude forests and snow-capped mountains in western Sichuan, the scenery here is quite breathtaking. After getting off the shuttle bus, it will probably take about an hour to walk around, stopping to take photos. There's a shuttle bus at the exit to take you back to the entrance. There's not much shade inside the scenic area, so be sure to wear sunscreen.

We went on a rainy day, so there were fewer people. The snow-capped mountains were shrouded in fog. We entered the scenic area with the mindset that since we were already there, the air was very fresh. The scenery on a rainy day had a unique charm. After climbing for a while, it started raining heavily, and the kids didn't want to go any further, so we went back down. But then the rain stopped, the weather cleared up, and the snow-capped mountains appeared. It was absolutely amazing.

On the way from Bamei Town in the northern section of the Sichuan-Tibet Highway to Daofu County, you pass the Longdeng Grassland at an altitude of about 3,500 meters. Legend has it that the Tibetan hero King Gesar once camped here. The locals call it "Gesartong". The Longdeng Grassland is also called "Gesar Grassland" or "Gesar Longdeng Grassland". Longdeng Grassland is like an auspicious eight treasures map. The flat grassland is surrounded by continuous mountains. From a distance, we can see the Yala Snow Mountain in the east. There are villages, lakes, temples and the remains of King Gesar on the grassland. Although it is not as vast as the Ruoergai Grassland, it has beautiful legends and picturesque scenery, which is fascinating. Yaks and horses graze leisurely everywhere on the grassland. Villagers lead horses to the grassland beside the highway. Tourists who pass by can ride horses to visit the grassland. Longdeng Grassland is like a beautiful Tibetan girl in the Tibetan boudoir. Because she lives deep in the plateau, few people find her. There are beautiful scenery here, so you can visit it freely. If you have the opportunity to pass by Longdang Grassland, you might as well take a look here.

Looking for some fresh air this weekend, a friend recommended the front of Qingcheng Mountain. To be honest, I didn't have high expectations beforehand, thinking it would just be a hike and temple visit. But after walking around, I immediately added it to my "must-visit every year" list. Entering through the mountain gate, the first impression was "green." Towering ancient trees lined both sides of the stone path, the air was damp and fragrant with the scent of grass and trees. The path was gently paved, the steps weren't steep, and walking and stopping wasn't tiring at all, especially friendly to someone like me who doesn't exercise regularly. Not far along, I reached Tianshi Cave. The branches of an ancient ginkgo tree shaded most of the courtyard. An old Taoist priest sitting under the tree, drinking tea, nodded to me, and at that moment, I suddenly felt calm. Sitting on the stone steps, listening to the sound of the wind rustling through the pine forest for a while, all the chaotic thoughts in my mind cleared away. Further up to Shangqing Palace, the platform in front overlooks the front of the mountain. Clouds and mist rise from the valleys, making the mountain peaks appear and disappear, truly giving it an ethereal feel. I met a kind Taoist priest who told me a story about Zhang Tianshi and recommended I try the tea brewed with mountain spring water. That warm, welcoming attitude was far more comfortable than the standardized service at any trendy tourist spot. What touched me most about the entire mountain path was its tranquility. The sound of a stream accompanied me all the way, tinkling and melodious, like nature playing white noise. One section of the path was lined with bamboo and ferns, sunlight filtering through the leaves, making me feel as if I had stepped into a movie. On the way down, I took a ferry on Yuecheng Lake. The boatwoman hummed a tune, and the green mountains on both sides slowly receded—the feeling was indescribable. Although the summit was shrouded in fog this time, preventing me from seeing the panoramic view, it's good to leave something to look forward to; it gives me a reason to come back next time. The front of Qingcheng Mountain doesn't try to force you to climb until your legs break, nor does it try to fool you with artificial attractions. It simply offers you a peaceful green space, a cup of tea, and a quiet path. If you want to steal half a day of leisure from the fast pace of life, this is the place to go.
