Highlights: The largest zoo in Russia is the Moscow Zoo. The zoo itself consists of more than 49 acres of land housing enclosures that has a diversity of both northern and exotic species. This particular zoo was founded in 1864 and it was a private zoo at first but then it was transferred into public control of Russia in 1922. The Moscow Zoo contains more than 6,000 varieties of animals that come from 1,000 different species. There are many unique animals in this zoo that are native to the region like the Siberian Tiger, Bengal Tiger, European Lynx, Snow Leopard and the Jaguar.
