Baoding Catholic Church was built in the 24th year of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1901) and expanded in the 3rd year of Emperor Xuantong of the Qing Dynasty (1910). It was built by French missionaries and was originally named "St. Peter's Church". ‌‌The church is located in the center of Baoding, Hebei Province. It is far away from the ancient lotus pond in the south, the famous Buddhist temple Daci Pavilion in the east, and the Governor's Office of Zhili in the west. The church covers an area of 8,000 square meters. The architectural style is typical Romanesque. It is 54.3 meters long, 17.6 meters wide and 20 meters high. There are 14 towering red columns supporting the roof. The front yard of the church is a typical French-style building. There are 12 white marble carved stone pillars on the altar, symbolizing the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ. Baoding Catholic Church is not only a place for religious activities, but also a key cultural relic protection unit in Hebei Province. It was listed in the "Eighth Batch of Chinese 20th Century Architectural Heritage" in 2023. This church has witnessed the integration and harmonious coexistence of Chinese and Western cultures in history and has always been the cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Baoding.
