We enjoyed our visit to the Making Music Museum. Instead of just showing the instruments the museum also reviews the various sounds and songs of the time. Would have enjoyed learning a little more about the trends in music not just hearing them. Sometimes there was no context of the song and who/where performed.

The Museum of Making Music is an establishment you wouldn't expect to come across in Carlsbad. Built around the history of music and its making, everyone from renowned experts to newbies can take something away from the museum.
We went with my nephew, who was a budding musician, but we all ended up having a great time playing on the instruments they had in the exhibits and learning about the history of music, cool things about how instruments were invented, how they're built and more.
This is an unadvertised special. For a small fee you go through the music Museum where they have every instrument. History that goes along with it and hands-on where you can test and play some of the instruments. We didn't know we would have so much fun when we entered the building. Proved to be a great time for my 20-year-old and 13-year-old and myself
View hundreds of vintage instruments, audio and video clips, and a cool interactive area. Each gallery features historic milestones, popular music and instruments of different eras. Check the Calendar of Events http://www.museumofmakingmusic.org/events/events before planning your visit. They have pretty exciting and unique concerts taking place monthly.
