One of 4 major basilicas in Rome. St. Giovanni is the oldest basilica in Rome. Very pretty church, with spectacular gold work on the ceilings. It houses the tombs of 6 Popes, and was the primary papal church until the popes moved to Avignon.
Very important historical church. It was the pope's seat before it was moved to St. Peter's in XVI century. It is just 15' on foot from our property.
Small crowd of attractions, sparsely populated, no tickets. The magnificent architecture, the exquisite sculpture. It was built in 314, destroyed by a fire in 1308, and rebuilt in the 14th century. The statues of Jesus Christ and the Thirteen Apostles in the main hall are beautiful and exquisite. The bronze door leading to the ancient Roman Senate in the center silently reveals the profound history.
