🌿 What to See
Medan is more than just a city stop. The surrounding region is filled with lush green landscapes, mountains, waterfalls and volcanic scenery.
🏞️ Lake Toba — One of the most spectacular natural attractions in North Sumatra, surrounded by mountains and the unique culture of Samosir Island.
💦 Sipiso-piso Waterfall — A dramatic waterfall surrounded by beautiful highland scenery.
🏛️ Maimun Palace — Discover Medan's royal history and the heritage of the Malay Deli Sultanate.
🕌 Medan Grand Mosque — One of the city's most beautiful architectural landmarks.

🌃 Merdeka Walk — A lively place to explore local food, snacks and the city's evening atmosphere.
🍜 Don't Leave Without Trying the Local Food!
One of the best reasons to visit Medan is definitely the food! 🤤
🍚 Bihun Bebek — A flavourful duck rice vermicelli dish.
🥣 Soto Medan — A rich and aromatic local-style soup that's perfect for a comforting meal.
🥭 Medan Durian — If you're a durian lover, Medan is famous for its strong, creamy and distinctive durian.

Made it to Kilometer Zero Indonesia — literally where Indonesia begins. 🇮🇩📍

Located at the westernmost tip of Pulau Weh, Sabang, Kilometer Zero is one of those places that feels more meaningful once you know what it represents. The monument marks the starting point used to measure Indonesia from west to east.

The drive here is part of the experience too — quiet roads surrounded by tropical forest, with beautiful ocean views appearing along the way. 🌿🌊

Walk around the monument, take the obligatory “KM 0” photo, then head towards the viewpoints nearby for views of the open sea.

I came to Pulau Weh mainly for diving, but this was a nice little break between all those underwater days. 🤿

📍 Kilometer Zero Indonesia, Sabang, Pulau Weh, Aceh

💡 Tip: Combine this with a road trip around Pulau Weh. The route itself is scenic, and it’s much more enjoyable when you’re not rushing.
