Hotan Prefecture

The Hotan area is located in the southern corner of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Hotan is situated in the heart of the Eurasian continent within an arid wilderness. The region provides China with rich solar power resources. It is rich in mineral resources and is well-known for Hotan jade. The Yurungkash River is also known as the White Jade River due to the abundance of Hotan jade along its course. The river has its source in the glaciers along the northern slopes of the Kunlun Mountains. Nature attractions in the area include the Wuluwati Scenic Area and the Kunlun Lake Park.
