🎆 Daqu National Fireworks Competition | Akita Daisen Japan's three top fireworks events
When it comes to Japanese fireworks, we can't help but mention the big fireworks! ✨ Every August, this national-level top event will be held in Omonogawa Kawashiki, Osen City, Akita Prefecture. The country's strongest fireworks masters gather together.
🔥Daqu National Fireworks Competition

📍Location: Okuhiro, Kawashiki, Okuta, Daisen, Akita Prefecture
(Address: Akita-ken, Daisen-shi, Omagari, Kawaramachi)
🕒 The event usually starts around 17:00 in the evening, with the main fireworks around 19:00-21:00 in the evening
🌟Highlights must see
· One of the three major fireworks conferences in Japan, the country's top fireworks masters compete on the spot, the competition is dizzying to see
· Giant Dayu fireworks burst out in a row, full of impact, great for video and photography
· Music with theme fireworks, the atmosphere is super High! Screen sense max
· There are many festival stalls on site, midsummer crowds, wearing yukata walking, check-in zero blind spots
🚄Traffic information
· JR: Take to JR Oku Station, get off and walk about 15‐20 minutes to the riverside of the venue
· From Tokyo: Take the Shinkansen directly to Okuji Station, which is very convenient to reach within 3 hours
⚠️ Highlights: The day of the fireworks is really crowded, the highway will be jammed to explode, so it is not recommended to drive! JR will increase its shifts, but be prepared in line waiting for the train on site.
📸 Check-in and photo location guide
· 💺 Kawashiki fee designated viewing seat: unobstructed beautiful position, viewing, photography and satisfaction at the same time! But to participate in the draw and buy tickets in advance, it's really a matter of hands.
· 👥 Kawashiki Free Area: There are many people, go early to occupy a beautiful place, perfect for friends who want to feel the popcorn vibe.
· 🏞 Surrounding highland outlook point: avoid the sea of people, shoot the whole scene, but the landscape will have a sense of distance.
🏨 Surrounding accommodation recommendations
· Daxian City/Daqu City Hotel: Walk to the venue super close! But on Fireworks Day, room rates rise and fill up extremely quickly. It is recommended to book six months in advance.
· Accommodation in Akita city: If you can't book in Daqu, you can choose Akita City, about 40‑50 minutes by JR, but be sure to expect all the traffic will be very crowded during the break.
· Surrounding Onsen Inn: After watching the fireworks, return to the inn to soak in the hot springs and relax!
🍜A must-eat Akita Daisen delicacies
· Akita Inari Udon: Crispy and bouncy, a must-eat specialty in the Northeast
· Akita than Mainland Chicken: Chicken pot, skewers are super delicious
· Festival snacks: Festival stalls have fried noodles, Osaka grilled, and cotton candy to enjoy
· Akita Sake: Authentic distillery, want to drink again!
🗺️ Travel Itinerary Recommendation | Akita 3 Days 2 Nights Plan
Day1: Tokyo Shinkansen direct to Oku → City walk → Evening entry to feel the fireworks event → Overnight stay in Oku
Day2: Kakukan Samurai Yashiki Tour Edo Ancient Street → Chill by Lake Tazawa
Day3: Visit the Ghost Culture at Man Deer Peninsula → Return
💡Careful tips
· Paid viewing seats must be on the official draw, sometimes a vote is hard to get, remember to check the official website open draw date
· Sand and wet grass on site, bring a floor mat, mosquito repellent and your own water bottle
· Windy by the river at night, remember to bring a jacket! August is quite cool in the northeast at night. Don't pretend it's okay to wear a yukata
· In case of inclement weather that day, the event may be postponed, be sure to check the official updates before departure
· There are tens of thousands of people leaving together, it is recommended to wait for the crowd to disperse before leaving, or schedule more time to walk slowly
