seabroglee:“Japan's two northernmost islands, Rishiri (Dream Floating Island) and Rebun (Flower Floating Island), are both worth the effort of a trip.
Rebun Island is great for cycling and hiking, while Rishiri Island is perfect for cycling and hiking.
Rishiri Island has several attractions; make reservations for dining in advance, or use the convenience store Seicomart as a guaranteed stop. The most rewarding experience is undoubtedly summiting Mount Rishiri.
However, a landslide on Mount Rishiri in mid-June of this year damaged the climbing route. The Kutsugata Trail is no longer accessible, leaving only the Oshidomari Trail, which is much more difficult due to the increased rock and debris. Furthermore, as this is a wild mountain, there are no climbing aids or supplies, so it's recommended to travel with a group and be prepared.
For accommodations, we recommend guesthouses and the Rishiri Fuji Onsen Kanko Hotel, located across from Oshidomari Port.”
