Photos of Archaeological Park of Herculaneum

The ancient city of Herculaneum was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1979. The eruption of this volcano also brought disaster to ancient cities such as Pompeii and Stabio. In some ways, Herculaneum is more worth visiting than Pompeii. Although buried under 20 meters of volcanic ash, most of the architectural structures and even the furniture structures in the ancient city are well preserved. You can clearly appreciate the mosaic murals on the walls that record the story of the ancient city. In 1997, the ancient city of Herculaneum was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. In addition, compared with the ancient city of Pompeii, there are relatively few tour groups here, which can avoid the crowds and have a closer contact with the life, culture and art of the ancient Romans.
