When the Apostle Saint Paul came to Cappadocia in the 4th century, he believed that Greime's precipitous and peculiar environment was suitable for training missionaries. He opened seminaries here one after another and left behind more than 30 cave churches, such as Dark Church, Apple Church, Button Church, Snake Church, Saint Barbara Church, and numerous cave dwellings.
