The river, the mother river of Bern. The river flows from west to east into Bern, and turns a 180o curve to the west, forming the famous U-shaped "Al Ring", which becomes a natural barrier to the old city of Bern. The inner part of the Al is the peninsula-shaped old Bern town, connected by seven bridges to the new town on the outside of the river. Down the elevator or trail in the city, you can enjoy the clear river and the beautiful scenery on both sides of the Al.
