Saw it at the early part of my walk in Ephesus
People were posing and taking pictures around here. I learned that it is the Hercules Gate, the remains of the gate itself. Hercules is at the lower part of the column/gate .Proceeded with my downhil...
If I didn’t have a guide I wouldn’t have microbes this was anything. But it’s a nice gate and the relief sculptures depict Hercules carrying the lion down that he killed with his bare hands.
The Heracles Gate was once the southern entrance to the main city Avenue - the Curetes. However, over the ages only two beautifully carved columns remained. There's no chance to miss it as they stand...
Maybe once it was a monumental, beautiful gate. Unfortunately, today only a few rectangular marble columns with a few figures carved on them remain. Nothing really impressive.
