A lovely spot; knowing the history makes it even better

A very nice smaller shrine in Yotsuya not far from the police station, and a short walk east from Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. This shrine is compact, but there's a lot to see in every corner. It ...

    Getting to kknow Japan

The Tori gate here is splendid...temple is peaceful, the serenity is what this is all about in my opinion, and forms the backbone of Japanese society.

A shrine near the original story of Mr. Oiwa, who is famous for Yotsuya Kaidan. From Yotsuya 3-chome, pass the police station and behind it. I am on my own. The precincts are not large. It seems that the couple were good friends.

A shrine related to Oiwa San in "Tokaido Yotsuya Kaidan"

    Original Text

Kabuki Author Tsuruya Nanbu's "Tokaido Yotsuya Kaidan" is the old site of Oiwa Inari Shrine, which enshrines Iemon's wife, Oiwa, and is a historic site designated by Tokyo. It is located in a quiet residential area of 5 minutes walk from Yotsuya Sanchome Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line, and diagonally across the road is a marriage temple called "Oiwa Inari Younji". What I learned here is that the story of Oiwa and the actual Oiwa were different, and it was said that he was a good wife and wise mother who supported the Tamiya family, which had been falling, and was a good wife and a good mother. ...

He moved to Shinkawa, but he also rebuilt here

    Original Text

About 5 minutes walk from Yotsuya Sanchome Station. The year of its founding is unknown. The shrine of Inari God, which was originally enshrined as the residence god of the Tamiya family. Tamiya is the surname of "Oiwa-san" in Yotsuya Kaidan. After the fire in 1879, he was relocated to Shinkawa, Chuo-ku at the recommendation of the first Sadanji Ichikawa, but was rebuilt here in 1952. The shrine is roofed with wooden copper plates. The deities are Toyokehime Okami and Tamiya Oiwa-san. Unlike the ghost story, the actual rock was a married couple.
