Very historic and scenic temple -- must see!
One of our favorite places in Wakasa. It is a 1,200 year old Buddhist temple -- one of the few ancient cave temples in all of Japan! Very serene setting above the river. Starting in 2016 you can sign ...
Located on a cliff across the Yoshikawa River along National Highway 29, about an hour's drive from Tottori city. Even though it is a national highway, there is a park where there are few cars coming and going on two lanes up and down, and several cars can be parked just ahead of Iwayado. The temple, which is fitted into a natural cave, was described on the information board that only the temple was burnt down in the invasion of Inaba by Hideyoshi in Tensho 9. Unlike Santokuyama Sanbutsuji Temple, is it famous ... a place ... There are no visitors for national important cultural properties.
There is this temple in the form of "throwing" on the quay on the riverbank, which is just a short distance from the national highway. I couldn't climb the tower because I was worshiping alone, but it only took dozens of steps and I could climb it immediately. Iwaya Shrine is on the right side of the entrance to the approach, and it is also quite tasteful.
It is a stage building in a natural cave of about 7m, height 13m, depth 10m, a national important cultural property surrounded by rich nature. There is also a signboard (signboard) along the national highway, so I think it's easy to understand how to get there. There is nothing to see except this within walking distance.
It is a building in a village along the mountain a little far from National Highway 29. It's built in a hollow rock, and it's a very mysterious sight. Perhaps because I visited at the end of November, there were few tourists and I was able to take a leisurely tour. There was a fence in the middle of the stairs leading to the hall, so I couldn't get close to the hall, but just looking up from there you can feel the quiet atmosphere.
