Not only did we receive excellent service during our stay, but their flexibility in accommodating our individual requests truly set them apart from other hotels – it was a world of difference. Highly recommend.
My family and I stayed overnight with breakfast included.
We had to extend our stay at short notice, so we looked into the Grand Mercure, which we were interested in, and found that only Japanese-style rooms were available.
Our room was a ”traditional” style. (We actually wanted an animal-themed room for kids, but since it was summer vacation, it was fully booked when we looked a while ago.)
The newly renovated area was very clean and impressive.
There was a pool, outdoor play equipment, and an indoor playground, so we could play there before going to our room, so we arrived early and had plenty of fun. (The pool shower and changing rooms were very small and a bit old-fashioned, which was a shame.)
We also used the lounge both in the evening and at night, and my daughter loved it.
The bath had a lovely atmosphere, and the relaxing space after the bath, as well as the vinegar drink and amazake (sweet rice drink) were delicious.
The breakfast buffet the next morning is reserved at check-in, so it's best to book early to choose the time. (One-hour limit.)
The restaurant on the 13th floor has a great view, so the views were spectacular. Most of the guests were families with young children (elementary school age and younger), and there were plenty of kid's chairs and beds available.
Reservations are required, so while the tables were full, it wasn't too crowded and we had trouble getting food. (We made our reservation at 9:00 AM.)
The menu was satisfying for both adults and children.
There are plenty of hotels available, so I recommend arriving with plenty of time to check in.
It's located right next to Rindoko Family Farm, so it's also recommended for those staying there.
The facilities and hospitality of the hotel mentioned above are close to full marks.
On the other hand, unfortunately the cleaning of the hot spring bath is not so good, and there is nothing that can be done about the quality of the hot spring water.
And the quality of the dinner. The number of dishes is more than enough, but I would like them to take the taste more seriously.
I would like food that tastes good, not just the price.
The hotel itself is lovely, and the service was incredibly attentive. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. We booked a large room which was exceptionally spacious, and my family absolutely loved it. Its proximity to Toshogu Shrine was a huge plus – just a 5-minute walk to the entrance, making it super convenient for sightseeing. Overall, a highly recommended hotel.
Overall is good in terms of food/facilities/services. Yumoto onsen bus stop is only 3mins walk away from hotel.
The tatami room I stayed is spacious..just that it got smell which I believe it is due to lack of ventilation. Feel ok after i spray some air freshener.
The hotel is located on top of the hill, is not very convenient to get there. The shuttle bus from Nikko station is fully booked even we tried to book 1 day in advance as recommended on their website which only written in Japanese. There is no shuttle provided to pick up from the hotel bus stop. With luggage it’s definitely more than 7min up hill walk. The room we book comes with an open air bath, but was informed that the open air bath in room cannot be use during winter due to frozen pipe condition. The food is mediocre, nothing special.
This is top-notch here.
I go there every day.
The breakfast has a ton of vegetables.
I highly recommend the curry rice with some scrambled eggs; it's super delicious.
The women's bath doesn't have a sauna.
It was immaculately clean. The service was also very polite and attentive, which I truly appreciated. We had both dinner and breakfast, and the food was delicious, making for a perfectly satisfying trip.
After two days, eating out in the area was a dreadful problem. It was both unpalatable and hard to find (they closed early). The hotel's food was also quite unpalatable, but at least they offered à la carte options, so I wasn't critical. The supermarket was at least a half-hour drive away, and the road was winding...too difficult. The hotel itself was quite basic, with two different types of hot springs. It was a pretty pristine environment...monkeys pooped on my balcony every day...never happened to me when I stayed in Kamikochi or Aomori.

Very Good
AAnonymous UserEnjoyable stay at yutorelo nikko, which was conveniently located near lake chuzenji. Room was big and had a nice view of the lake. Hotel onsen was very legit and nice especially when the night was cold. There is free sake and alcohol in the lounge. Breakfast was a delicious set meal with drinks available. Hotel is walkable distance to kegon falls. Would recommend :)
GGuest UserI don’t understand why someone would leave a negative review due to their own negligence. Trip.com clearly mentioned the additional 300-yen tax (I assume this is the onsen tax) per person, yet they still claimed they were “scammed.”
My overall experience at Hotel Euro City was wonderful. The staff were extremely nice and helpful, and the shuttle bus service was amazing. If you want to get to the hotel easily, check the shuttle schedule on the hotel’s homepage so you don’t have to walk from the station. They run it every day at 9:00, 9:30, 10:00, 15:15, 16:15, 17:15, and 18:15 from “Nikko Station Hotel Classic,” right next to JR Nikko Station.
The room was spacious and comfortable, and the onsen in the backyard was great. It’s true that the room had a mild smell, but I assume it was due to recent pest control (it smelled like pesticide). Just open the windows for a while and it goes away.
Breakfast was okay—not as fancy as in the advertisements, maybe because it wasn’t peak season. Overall, I think this is a very good choice, especially if you’re traveling with family.
GGuest UserThe location is really good. 10 mins away from the station. Easy to find. Big hotel, about 11 floors. The room is quite spacious, part in western style with beds and part in japaneese with tatamis. There is sink in themiddle of the room, quite comfy. Good view to the mountain and forest from the window, 9th floor. Nice yukata to wear, i liked the outerpart. Breakfast and dinner is buffet, quite big choice, free beer for dinner, not so many fruits, no cakes for breakfast (dinner only). There is sushi and sashimi choice, delicious food. Onsen is quite good, clean, big. Will recommend to stay here
玩玩转星球-KevinThe most important buffet dinner during the stay was served very late, and the dishes were often empty, which is very rare in Japan.
Because it was less than 700 yuan and included two meals, although the hotel had many flaws, it was understandable, but the faucet in the room seemed to be broken, and the water flow was not smooth, which should be replaced.
Overall, this room was acceptable.
AavlatkaIt is far from Tobu Niko station and relatively close to the main attractions. Of the pluses, two private onsens can be accommodated in two or three. One is laid out with a tile, the other is stone (used by a great demand, understandable case). If you take the onsen, no one will enter it anymore. To let the guests know whether the onsen is free and which special signal lamps are made, it is convenient. The Onsens work from 16 to 23 hours, so it is impossible to get down in the morning. Like I think, the water is cold and the rooms are closed - I love outdoors.
The breakfast was unexpected, but they are fed exclusively with different baking (for a long time, so many tests have not eaten). It is also possible to buy frozen dishes for cheap and immediately distribute them in a microwave.
In the bathroom and toilet room, the yucata is issued on demand.
A beautiful living room where you can sit in the evening (if not too many guests). Here, where to sit in the street evening, it is not very clear, because near the Onsens there is a smoke zone with shops, but there is not a very nice smell.
AAnonymous UserThis was my first time staying at a Hoshino Hotel in the Kai series, and I was very satisfied. The ”Kai” hotel in Nikko, especially the cable car, is definitely worth the experience. The hotel is very close to the station, seemingly nestled in the mountains, but it's actually just a short walk from the hot spring town. It's bustling yet secluded.
The decor is a distinctly Japanese style, combining minimalism with a wabi-sabi vibe. I personally love it. Those who enjoy this series will appreciate it, but those who prefer extravagant and elaborate décor wouldn't recommend it; they'll be disappointed.
The hotel also offers free coffee and tea, as well as unlimited juice and ice cream, so children will have more fun than adults. The hot springs are incredibly beautiful. During cherry blossom season, the hot springs are right outside, and during autumn foliage season, the mountain courtyard is filled with vibrant colors.
Overall, the hotel isn't large, resembling a small resort, but it's packed with details, views, and activities. There are free evening performances, the kaiseki dinner is exquisite, and the Japanese breakfast is also very delicious. A hotel worth experiencing: upscale yet not intimidating, the service is very pleasant.
In addition, there are a lot of fun theme parks and attractions nearby in just five minutes’ drive. This is also the reason for the recommendation.

GGuest UserThe room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the view was great. The free cocktail and coffee services in the lobby were nice, as well as the free drink bar (including one beer per person) near the entrance to the hot spring. The paid massage service was also good. The meals were decent, especially the grilled beef, which simply melted in my mouth. The restaurant staff welcomed us warmly and provided friendly service.
Cons: The variety of hot springs was lacking, and the view from the hot springs was almost blocked, which was disappointing. The lockers for valuables used combination dials, and foreign guests often didn’t know how to use them, locking their room keys inside and struggling to reopen them. This was a major inconvenience. They should switch to a key-and-wristband system like other onsen hotels.
The room itself felt like an old, once-grand mansion that had seen better days. The furniture had many scratches, and the surfaces were worn and peeling. It made me think it must have been impressive in the past. Still, the room was definitely more spacious compared to other hotels.
WWrldTravelerFriendly and convenient hotel within walking distance to the Utsonomiya Station. This is the newest hotel in the area, highly recommended!
GGuest UserThis was my first time for staying in ryokan. This ryokan has such a delight, warming services and very nice hotel staffs. Although I can not speak japanese, the language did not bring me any problems because we could use google translate and some of the innkeeper can speak English. I felt like I stay in my home and very enjoyed interacting with both hotel staffs and shiobara people. Besides, foods there were so delicious.
- traditional japanese food: they wrote a welcome note and descriptions of food in paper (in japanese) eg. Fish came from river beside hotel, everything was from local which I really really love it.
- local venison(deer meat): must try yakiniku
If you wanna avoid chaotic environment in the city, I would reccommend this place because you would feel a part of nature (natural sound is so nice) and you can find a true calm of your soul.
We were very surprised because we were only foreigner tourist in the hotel.
Thank you innkeeper and staff for caring us. We always miss there when we come back to busy city!
