This mountain range is one of the most impressive and accessible areas of unspoilt natural beauty you’ll find in New South Wales. There are a grand total of 4 national parks to visit in the range – Blue Mountains National Park, Kanangra Boyd National Park, Gardens of Stone National Park, and Wollemi National Park.

There are other stunning areas in addition to these, too – check out the Jenolan Caves, for example! This is a jaw-dropping, award-winning cave system, filled with weird and wonderful limestone formations.

It’s free to visit the reserve, but if you’d like to know more, booking a cave tour is a solid choice. If you time it right, you might even have the chance to experience one of the underground concerts held regularly, making use of the spectacular acoustics inside the caves.

A day trip out of town with Featherdale Wildlife Park tickets is a great idea – but why not turn it into a weekend exploring this enchanting area of the world?

With Featherdale Wildlife Park tickets, you’ll be entering a paradise of the Australian natural world. There’re over 2,000 animals altogether, representing around 260 different species, most of them entirely native to Australia.

With multiple opportunities every day to get up close with the animals, have an encounter, or listen to talks from the knowledgeable and friendly zoo keepers, you’ll find it hard to pack everything in!

One of the main attractions of course is going to be the koalas – Featherdale Wildlife Park tickets get you access to the largest population of captive koalas in New South Wales!

Other animals you’ll love to encounter are kangaroos, quokkas, penguins, crocodiles, wallabies, and wombats. And it’s not just the typical zoo trip you should expect, either – keep reading to discover the many interactive activities that Featherdale has to offer.

One thing you can enjoy at any time of the day is helping to feed the kangaroos, wallabies, and pademelons. Once they realise you have something tasty in your hands, you’ll find they are very curious and friendly! Special cups of kangaroo food can be bought inside the park for just AUD3.00.

Featherdale Wildlife Park tickets really give you the opportunity to experience something magic: special, one-on-one animal encounters. You can add any of these on to your ticket while at the park.

Why not book access to enter one of the quokka enclosures, for example, and try to get a selfie with these cutest of marsupials? The quokka is a small, stocky macropod, and whilst it looks like a little kangaroo, it’s also very good at climbing trees!

In addition to your own photos and videos that you’ll be able to take during the encounter, you’ll also receive a professional photo souvenir to take away with you. Quokka encounters take place at 11:30 and 12:00 daily, and there’s a maximum of 2 participants for each encounter.

Feeding time at Featherdale

Another great experience you can add on to your Featherdale Wildlife Park tickets is feeding time with the penguins! These feeding times occur at 10:00 and 15:30 every day. Again, there’s a maximum of 2 participants for each encounter.

You’ll get the opportunity to help out the zoo keepers by hand feeding the members of the penguin colony at Featherdale. Sit among them, watch them play, and of course get some unforgettable selfies and videos. You won’t want to leave the colony!

The famous koala photo encounters take place during timeslots throughout the day. From Monday to Friday, you’ll be able to book an up-close encounter with a koala between 09:00 and 12:00, and between 13:00 and 15:00. On Saturdays and Sundays, they can take place any time between 09:00 and 15:30.

While you’re getting up close and personal with one of Australia’s most iconic animals, the friendly koala keepers will tell you all about this most unique of bears. And you’ll take away a great souvenir photo to remember your experience.

What’s more, part of the booking price for this encounter will go towards Featherdale’s Koala Plantation Fund. This is a fund dedicated to ensuring a sustainable supply of Eucalyptus for the koala population.

If you want to spend even more time around the koalas, you can even book a visit to the koala kindy. This will get you exclusive access to the koala enclosures, and make a great addition to your Featherdale Wildlife Park tickets.

You’ll help the keepers serve the koalas their regular and favourite diet of Eucalyptus, and have plenty of time for a private meeting with some of the bears. After that, you can sit back and watch them as they enjoy the fragrant Eucalyptus leaves they love so much.

Another option you can add on to your Featherdale Wildlife Park tickets is a walk through the new lorikeet aviary. The lorikeet is a beautiful, colourful Australian parrot – their riotous rainbow colours will dazzle you!

You and your little ones will learn so much – not just from the animals themselves, but also from the zoo keepers. While you’re travelling around this area, you can also call in to some of the scenic mountain towns like Wentworth Falls, Leura, and Blackheath.

Each of them picturesque in their own way, you’ll really get a sense of what mountain living feels like. Waterfalls, boutique stores, art galleries, and scenic walks – there’s plenty to keep you occupied for a day or two.
