Shanghai Bund, which I visited because I had a Chinese visa, is really cool. There are a lot of mainland tourists and the streets are full of energy. The view from the 118th floor is overwhelming. You can spend a lot of time drinking tea and there aren't many people so it's nice and leisurely. I think Shanghai is the best after the glamour of Hong Kong. I highly recommend it. I highly recommend it.

The views are spectacular, but it's WAY too crowded and expensive (€22). Still, I recommend it; if you're in Shanghai, don't miss it.

FAQs about Shanghai Tower

  • What makes the Shanghai Tower earthquake proof?

The Shanghai Tower’s earthquake resistance stems from a combination of innovative engineering and structural design. At its core is a massive 1,000-ton steel damper (often called a “tuned mass damper”) located in the Sky Summit (F125/126). This weighted device acts like a pendulum, counteracting the building’s sway during earthquakes or strong winds by moving in the opposite direction of the tower’s motion, reducing vibrations significantly. Additionally, the tower’s flexible, twisted structure—designed to minimize wind resistance—also enhances its ability to absorb seismic energy. High-strength steel and reinforced concrete in its core and outer frame further reinforce stability, allowing it to withstand major earthquakes while protecting occupants.
  • Is it worth going up the Shanghai Tower?

Yes, ascending the Shanghai Tower is well worth it for anyone seeking unique perspectives of Shanghai and a taste of cutting-edge engineering. The 546-meter observation deck (F118) offers unparalleled views—on clear days, you can see the Bund’s historic skyline 5 kilometers away, watch ships on the Huangpu River, or marvel at the city’s twinkling lights at night. The ride itself is memorable: the world’s fastest elevator reaches the deck in just 55 seconds. Beyond the views, the tower’s sky lobbies (like the 52nd-floor Cloud Library or 68th-floor Michelin-starred restaurant) add layers of experience, blending culture, dining, and architecture. Even the upcoming Sky Summit (F125/126) with its art-tech installations and the massive steel damper offers insight into the tower’s engineering genius, making it more than just a viewpoint—it’s a showcase of modern innovation.
  • What is the top 10 tallest tower in the world?

As of 2025, the world’s 10 tallest habitable towers (by height) are: Burj Khalifa (Dubai, UAE) – 828 meters Merdeka 118 (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) – 678.9 meters Shanghai Tower (Shanghai, China) – 632 meters Abraj Al-Bait Clock Tower (Mecca, Saudi Arabia) – 601 meters Ping An Finance Center (Shenzhen, China) – 599 meters Lotte World Tower (Seoul, South Korea) – 555 meters One World Trade Center (New York, USA) – 541.3 meters Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre (Guangzhou, China) – 530 meters Tianjin CTF Finance Centre (Tianjin, China) – 530 meters China Zun (CITIC Tower) (Beijing, China) – 528 meters
