El Convento was undergoing some cosmetic work to the street-facing outside walls during our stay, so pulling up to the hotel for the first time was “unassuming”. Once inside, the experience was everything one could ask of a luxury boutique hotel. My favorite aspect was the blending of “old historic convent” with a very well appointed and functional hotel. Wood work, tile, common spaces, restaurant, pool, and upstairs patio are gorgeous. The staff is excellent and very helpful. Ariana at the reception desk great. And helped arrange transportation for us to go to Panajachel/Lake Atitlan for a couple days. If you need transportation, ask for Edgar Barrillas. He is excellent. During the 2 hour drive to Pana, he was a wealth of historical information on the region. He even picked us up after stay in Quetzaltenango and drove us back to Antigua. The property is stunningly beautiful, but the mark of an elite hotel is the staff. I would definitely recommend this boutique hotel for a stay in Antigua!
