Booked for three nights, stayed six nights - read on! I had such a wonderful time staying at Istana Balian. The accommodation room was immaculately clean (and cleaned daily) with good-quality linen and toiletries provided. The on-site restaurant provides a fantastic breakfast daily (a choice of 8 different options is included - extras and other items are available for purchase), and it is also open for lunch and dinner. Each meal was thoughtfully prepared and utterly delicious! The neighborhood is quiet and seems to really appeal to surfers – which is fantastic, you are made to feel welcome! Balian Beach is a couple of minutes' walk away and is beautiful, and there are a number of cafes and restaurants closeby. The standout, however, was the impeccable service delivered by every single staff member. It starts with the driver from the airport – arranged through the hotel – who enthusiastically greets you on arrival and gives you a great indication of what's to come (cheers Nyoman!). The hotel staff work so hard to make sure that you enjoy your stay.... It's a great experience! Thank you Komang, Michael, Indah, Bagus, Desak, and Ketut – I can't wait to come back.

Istana has one of the best kitchens in Balian and also has screens to watch watever you want . Surfing seems to get a good run . An airy , open eating area makes for a nice experience . Ordered the chicken tacos . Very nice too . Adding fresh chopped chilli put some heat into it .The accomodation is excellent , but so is the food . Go there . I also had some JD and Coke too ..

Istana Balian is located a 5 minute walk to the beach. Balian itself is a quiet village with no clothes or souvenir shops and only a handful of restaurants. The main attraction appears to be surfing and yoga. The surf at the beach is not to be negotiated unless you are a very confident swimmer. Istana Balian is a very well maintained, impeccably clean hotel of only about 8 rooms. The beds are extremely comfortable, linen is high quality and the rooms are big. There is a balcony with a large daybed outside every room. The restaurant sits adjacent to a lovely clean, deep pool. The food is excellent as are the prices. Australian wine is available by the glass or bottle at a very reasonable price. There is something for everyone on the menu. The staff go out of their way and will literally ride to the shops if you need them to. Drinks and snacks are available both at the local little shops and at the hotel. On weekends the hotel plays Australian rugby league, union and AFL on large screens so attracts a good crowd, creating a nice atmosphere. I have been to Bali many times and would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking to relax in peace. The area is like Bali was many years ago. Massages are available on request as are manicures and pedicures. Komang and her husband Michael will go out of their way to ensure your stay is a happy one.

What a surprise! Istana is quietly located on the hill overlooking Balian beach. Arrival was made extra easy as Bagus collected my bags from where I was staying (further down the hill). I was welcomed with a delicious chilled mixed juice and check in was simple. They do broadcast live sporting events in restaurant, which does not interest me but it doesn’t go late, and I couldn’t hear anything from my room. 🙏 My lovely super quiet room (room 5) facing the garden was a haven. Fresh white linen, quality towels, comfortable mattress and king size pillows. The fan and A/C worked well and both were very quiet. A lovely outdoor sitting area, table and chairs and a big daybed with fresh new cushions. Large bathroom well ventilated with lots of natural light coming in and everything spotlessly clean and well maintained. Complimentary breakfast was generous portions, freshly cooked and delicious. Please eat the “Kraft” bread made fresh every morning by Komang 😍. I loved it, AND at check out was gifted a whole loaf warm from the oven “for my journey”

This place is an absolute little gem in Balian. Komang is a wonderful host and her husband and children are great to have a chat to. The rooms are large and very comfortable. Food at the restaurant is outstanding. Great spot if you're into watching sport as they have a couple tv's in the restaurant/bar area. Will definitely be back.

Istana Balian has been amazing. I have been traveling solo with my 4yr old son in Bali & it felt like we had landed in heaven when we arrived at Istana - mostly for the welcoming, friendly & helpful staff. Mike the owner has been so welcoming to me and my son & we felt like we were at home. The rooms are perfect - clean, spacious - exactly what you need. The food is also delicious!!! Don't want to leave ... will come back. 10/10 highly highly recommend! Best place I've ever stayed in Bali ＜3 thank you Mike and team! From Alice & Francesco

My favorite place to stay in Balian! I stayed here long term during Covid and just check out from another stay and once again I wish I didn't have to leave. Komang and Michael run a lovely small boutique hotel situated at walking distance from the beautiful and quiet Balian beach. They are so welcoming and will go to great lengths to make sure that you have an amazing stay and make you feel at home. Nothing is too much for them and you will be well looked after during your stay. The whole property is beautiful and clean. The rooms are big, super comfortable, clean and equipped with everything you could need. The rooms upstairs have ocean view and the one downstairs are facing a nice lush garden. They all have big porch or balcony where it is good to chill and relax. The breakfast included in the room rate is really yummy and more than generous. Perfect after a morning surf. Istana also operate a restaurant that is open to public that has really good food, big portions for decent price. If you are looking for a cosy place to stay for a memorable time during your trip to Balian look no further!

Just wanna say yr staff just cooked me up a world class burger!! I had the beef burger with bbq sauce, and sweet chilli sauce on the side (when in Asia) What a treat!! Well done mate!! 👍👍👍 Last time I had the mahi mahi fish grill with mash potatoes, veg & gravy. Another winner!!!
