YHA Sheringham is a great place to relax, with basic, good value accommodation. We had the three person 'private' room, with two people. The location is a few minutes walk from the main and heritage railway stations, the town centre, and a supermarket. It is in a quiet, residential location and the building is spacious and welcoming. There are plenty of communal areas, such as TV room, pool table area, a large communal dining area and a dining room off the kitchen. The self-service kitchen is OK, and just about adequate for the amount of people I saw using it. The paid breakfast was of a good offering, both continental and full, with tea, filter coffee and juice. Consumption of own alcohol is not allowed, which is fair enough, considering. Communal showers were adequate and reasonably clean. The staff were friendly and helpful, reception is staffed evenings 5-10, although they are also around mornings to do breakfasts and clean. You can get hot drinks, cake and wine/beers on reception. Prices for all food/drink were ok. We didn't have a car, but there seemed adequate parking out front...to be honest though the area is great to explore without a car. The hostel is in a great location for enjoying the North Norfolk coast, and the hostel clientelle at the time of year reflect this (mostly 'mature', sorry if stereotyping!), with a combination of long distance walkers, cyclists, or those like us just using the trains, walking around and eating in the various pubs, restaurants or cafes. My wife wasn't a great fan of the plastic coated mattresses, which isnt to everyone's liking, so she had to put the duvet under her. As it was hot, she only used a sheet on top. Towels are extra to hire, although this is standard practice for YHA and no great hassle. There could have been better signage for the toilet near to our room, as it took a while to work out that it was in the wet room adjacent. The only random incident was when there was a power cut in the area in the middle of the night. Although it was unavoidable, it did cause a bit of confusion among guests. To be fair, the on-call member of staff who came in did their best to find out what was happening, although it was really outside their control. It's my third time here, and equally as good as before. Definitely one of my favourites. First time for my wife, who was sceptical about a YHA with shared bathrooms etc, but I think the quality of Sheringham was a good enough experience for her to cope!
