Barcelo Funchal Oldtown

Very nice and clean. Excellent breakfast. Room was comfortable, new, and clean. Shower was excellent.

Soundproof windows needed, especially for these rooms above the nightclubs. Sleeping is impossible, even with the use of earplugs or a pillow on the head. 7 nights stay in hotel room 429, no sleep until almost 5am due to the extremely loud noise from the clubs.

The hotel is in the perfect location in Funchal. In a popular pedestrian street but 1/2 block to the main Av Do Mar for all public transportation. Easy to walk around Funchal. Lots of restaurants and shops in the area. My room was large with a King Bed (ont he 1st floor facing the pedestrian street so it could be noisy but it’s quiet by about 10pm or so when the restaurants close). The shower was amazing (large and has a large rain shower)- perfect water temp even with my long showers. They have shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand wash and lotion available so you don’t have to bring. Large towels and robes offered. Large magnifying mirror with light also in bathroom. The bed is very comfortable and there was enough closet drawer space for one person. Large tv with plenty of channels. Wi-Fi was very good. The rooftop pool is lovely and they sometimes host events on the rooftop for guests which is a nice touch. Water in pool is warm with amazing views of the church and the water. They emailed me after the first night to see if there was anything I needed. I requested a box of tissues and a shower cap and by the time I got home from my day trip both were in my room - should they have been there initially? Sure. But they quickly remedied the situation. Reception was helpful. I would absolutely stay here again

This hotel is on a lovely tree lined avenue, connecting the old town to the seafront. A nice atmosphere in the area and live music by local musicians. We stopped a couple of times for coffee/drinks/snacks, enjoyable and very helpful staff. Then on another occasion we stopped for a late lunch, unfortunately this was disappointing. The Angus steak was very sinewy and not cooked as requested, also the prawn salad for 16.50 euros only had 5 prawns. No one checked if everything was alright whilst we were eating, so we could only give feedback at the end.

The best assortment of choices for Breakfast ,even had Cava/bucksfizz.lovely room, cleaned daily .rooftop swimming pool . You won't be Disappointed with this spot for a stay within walking distance of City centre.Barcelo group of hotels and resorts ,I will be looking out for them on my next trip to Portugal.

The location of this small hotel is perfect!! I have some mobility issues and this area of old town was so great. We had a small Juliet balcony right over the pedestrian walkway with views of the water. Large room and shower. We opted for the included breakfast. Very very large selection of hot and cold and made to order eggs. Breakfast staff so warm and helpful in any way you needed. Very much worth to include this option. The rooftop pool and bar had a lot of seating options and the views could not be better. If I had to find something negative. It would be that front end staff that we had did not explain some issues in room. Like two switches as you enter the room is for cleaning staff which we didn’t know how to use. The phone was not typical in room and had no idea how to use without asking . The size of the room is quite large and nicely laid out. But not many options for your clothes. We worked out of our suitcase due to lack of drawers . Also, for a 5 star hotel, I found it odd that they charged a fee if needed to weigh your luggage for airport weight restrictions. Having said all the above, I would not hesitate to stay here again. If we are able to return Barcelo will be our #1 choice

This hotel besides being a very confort one, in a very good location, walking distance from many of the highlites of Funchal, works with a very good company of taxis(Carvalho and Santos Funchal) that gave us a very good and ponctual services on transfers from and to the airport and very good day tours, from a very reasonal price.
