Lovely helpful staff and rooftop was lovely with an amazing view of Funchal. Only criticism was there was no bin in the bathroom and the minibar was not refilled each day. "We stayed here at the Vila Baleira Residence at the end of March 2026. Our Deluxe room was much smaller than we expected, they looked larger in the pictures on the Jet2 website. But it was all very clean, however there was a constant unpleasant smell coming from bathroom, again but very clean otherwise. Also one of the relaxing chairs on the balcony was broken and the cords were tied. As with the previous review the cutlery and utensils in the kitchen were sparse and there were only 4 hangers in the wardrobe and no other storage space for clothes i.e draws. We had to leave some clothes in our suitcases on the floor. We had a problem with the safe, we couldn't open it, but a helpful fella from Reception sorted it out for us. The breakfast choice was limited but fresh and plentiful. The breakfast waitress Paula was lovely, very attentive and efficient. We really missed her on her days off as the male waiter wasn't as efficient. It was a 2mile walk to the Town, it is quite hilly so we would have a Bolt back to the Hotel after a meal and glass of wine which cost just under 5 euros. There is a Lido close by with natural sea pools and sun loungers and umbrellas available to hire for 15 euros per day. We loved Madeira and will go back one day."

"We were going on a cruise; we needed a hotel within walking distance of the port. And it exceeded expectations, we love small hotels without scurrying crowds. It is very soulful here: a large room with a window with small glazing and a frame that slides up. A door leading to a terrace. Birds singing - after all, we are in a garden. A bathroom with two sinks and a bath (so tired of uncomfortable showers!). A wonderful breakfast, where you can cut your own jamon right off your leg, home-style. The interiors are divine! They shoot this in Poirot films: fireplaces, libraries, huge bouquets of flowers, massive staircases, On the doors there are not bells, but various knockers. I want to go back."

"We had an incident during our stay at Hotel Orca Praia (Funchal). At arrival to the hotel, we left our luggage in the luggage storage room next to the reception. When we returned to the hotel, to access our room, my partner’s luggage had been taken by mistake by another guest who left to travel to the south of Germany. As a result of this, my partner spent 7 days (the entire holiday) without his clothes and belongings. The hotel did not acknowledge any wrong doing on their part, despite the lack of system to identify luggage at the storage room and to securely handle the luggage to their owners. My partner had to buy some clothes with our own money. The hotel director was dismissive in email communications. He showed an extremely poor customer service and lack of empathy. We did not receive an apology from their side except from one member of the reception staff. I had never had such terrible treatment as a customer. I do not think this is appropriate for a public establishment, let alone a 4-star hotel. I would never stay here again!"
