"If you're coming to Noboribetsu for the onsen experience, Dai-ichi Takimotokan gets many things right. The location is exceptional. Sitting right beside Hell Valley (less than 3mins walk to main entrance) + shops around the resort offers one of the most iconic onsen settings in Japan. Service throughout the resort was warm, efficient, and genuinely welcoming. The property is well maintained, and cleanliness standards were consistently good throughout my stay. The highlight, without question, was my room with a private onsen overlooking Hell Valley. Waking up to steam rising from the volcanic landscape while soaking in mineral-rich waters is one of those travel moments that stays with you long after you've returned home. The Grand Onsen is another standout. While parts of the facility feel a little dated, it remains one of the largest and most impressive onsen complexes I've personally experienced. The variety of baths, minerals, temperatures, and views makes it a destination in itself. Where the resort falls short is the food. My Kaiseki dinner was underwhelming and lacked the refinement and wow factor I had expected as the first 2 dishes were pre-laid out b4 my arrival. Private Breakfast was acceptable but forgettable. Neither meal was bad, but neither was memorable, especially by Japanese ryokan standards. A word of caution for fitness enthusiasts: the ”fitness room” is more symbolic than functional. Calling it a gym would be generous. If maintaining a serious workout routine is important during your travels, you'll likely be disappointed. Overall, Dai-ichi Takimotokan is a resort I would recommend for its location, private onsen rooms, and spectacular bathing facilities rather than its culinary offerings. Come for the healing waters and views of Hell Valley; set your expectations lower for the dining experience. My rating: 4.2/5 Private Onsen Room: 9.5/10 Location: 9.5/10 Grand Onsen: 9/10 Service: 8.5/10 Cleanliness: 8.5/10 Kaiseki Dinner: 5/10 Breakfast: 5/10 Fitness Room: 1/10 In one sentence: ”A legendary onsen resort with one of Japan's most impressive bathing experiences, elevated by private Hell Valley views, but held back by average dining and a questionable fitness room."

The onsen (hot spring baths) are conveniently located on the B1 floor. For breakfast, there was a good selection of both Japanese and Western dishes. The hotel's location is also quite close to Jigokudani."

"The price was reasonable. It's about a kilometer uphill from the main shopping street, but we drove and appreciated the parking lot. There's a pretty little waterfall behind the parking area. Both breakfast and dinner were buffet style, and the food was just average. If you stay two nights in a row, they offer sweet shrimp on the second day. The Japanese-style room was standard and reasonably clean. We reserved a private onsen via email for 3300 yen. The experience was just okay, and I felt the public bath was better. With a 50-minute time limit, it felt a bit rushed."

"The ryokan was quite charming with lots of Japanese accents and architectural details. We signed up for one traditional breakfast and loved the experience. We loved the yukata outfits provided to schlep around the ryokan or even around town. The location was a bit of a walk going to the business/food/shop road but this only got a bit inconvenient when we had to drag our suitcases for about 10 minutes getting to the bus stop on our way back to the train station... thank goodness it was downhill all the way! Noboribetsu Onsen was a really cool place to visit!"

"Everything was great, except for the slightly hard slippers. The crab with ponzu sauce for dinner and the sweet shrimp for breakfast were absolutely delicious! After a soak in the hot spring, my skin felt so smooth. They had a wide variety of shampoos, mostly Pola, and also a hot spring water hair conditioner. I liked it so much I bought it directly from the hotel shop, it was even cheaper than Taobao resellers. Some of the hotel's little decorations were really cute. You can ask the front desk to book a free shuttle to the bear farm."

"The hotel is situated far up in the mountain side of Noboribetsu but we drove so it was convenient and the hotel offered free parking. We chose a room with a private open air bath which was certainly the highlight of the stay as it was snowing outside. The room is spacious and clean, the only complaint was the heavy smoke smell in the bathroom when the room was no smoking. We notified the hotel and they changed our room immediately. The buffet dinner and buffet breakfast was served in the 3rd floor, we were seated next to huge floor to ceiling windows which was a treat to see snowing landscape. They had a large range of food but the taste could better compared to other hotel buffets we had on our Hokkaido trip. Overall I would recommend this hotel and would certainly return in the future."

Guests can look forward to a relaxing stay with the sounds of a waterfall in the background at this ryokan. Facilities include an open-air bath and a Japanese garden. Also enjoy the skillfully prepared Japanese cuisine. null

"Facilities: Absolutely fantastic! Cleanliness: As expected from a Japanese hotel, impeccable. Ambiance: Elegant. Service: Warm and welcoming. This hotel was our first stop on our trip to Japan and it completely exceeded our expectations. Although it was a bit pricey, my family of three all agreed it was worth every penny. It honestly made all the subsequent hotels on our trip feel just 'okay' in comparison. We chose the 'one night, two meals' plan, and the D-type room came with a hot spring bath. The sushi at dinner was incredible – far better than what you'd get at a high-end restaurant in a major city (where you'd pay around 1300 JPY per person), and even better than the sushi we had in Sapporo and Tokyo. Breakfast was extensive, and the staff were incredibly polite and enthusiastic. We will definitely be back and will book the same hotel and room type again. This is the first hotel I've ever felt compelled to recommend; it's so much better than anything you'd find back home! It's rare to find a hotel that makes you want to linger and return."

"Loved this hotel. The rooms have been renovated and are very nice. Good linen, good comfortable beds, good bathrooms. Decent sized rooms. Good location, near the geothermal area. Nothing to dislike at all about this hotel! As mentioned the big plus is the ability to use the Takimotokan onsen across the road. Adex only provides medium Yukata and slippers but you can get larger sizes for the men at the Takimotokan hotel. Nice hikes near hotel. We saw a number of deer and even a set of antlers on the path."

OOndooWhen planning my first trip to Sapporo, I really wanted to include a hot spring experience. Naturally, Noboribetsu came to mind for hot springs, and that's how I found Hanaya while looking for a ryokan in the area. I'd seen reviews mentioning its location at the entrance of Noboribetsu made it a bit far, which wasn't an issue for us since we had a rental car. However, upon arrival, I realized it's not that far at all, and it's perfectly walkable unless it's extremely cold and snowy. The hot springs are separated for men and women, and the bath locations switch daily. Each gender's bath area has one indoor and one outdoor bath. Since the ryokan itself is small, if you time it right, you can often have the place to yourself. Maybe you'll encounter just one or two other guests? It's a genuine sulfur hot spring; remember to shower briefly before entering and keep towels and hair out of the water. You can't talk about a ryokan without mentioning kaiseki! We booked a stay for four people including dinner and breakfast, and dinner was kaiseki. It was served course by course, looked absolutely beautiful, and I found it incredibly delicious. For the price point, I was thoroughly satisfied. In the lobby, there are complimentary drinks available, including sake and beer, which you can enjoy as much as you like. Even though it's a small ryokan, they upgraded our room, and the staff were legendary for their kindness. It was a truly satisfying ryokan experience. I hope to visit again if I get the chance.

GGuest UserMarch 23, 2026 Three days in advance, I emailed the hotel to add king crab and steak to my booking. We had a great time at Date Jidaimura until just before closing, then took a cash-only bus to Noboribetsu Onsen Station. We arrived around 5:30 PM. Upon entering the lobby, we had to take off our shoes. The elderly gentleman at the front desk helped us check in and carried our luggage to the room, explaining the facilities along the way. We had dinner at 6:00 PM. We had to choose one dish from a few options, and we picked the local grilled fish. The fish meat was flaky white, very fragrant, and went perfectly with rice. The added steak was tender and springy, and the king crab legs had a slight briny taste, but the meat was very delicate. Coming here was mainly about soaking in the Noboribetsu hot springs and enjoying good food – a purely relaxing night. The next day, after checking out, we immediately caught the pre-booked direct Donan bus back to Sapporo. Before leaving, I bought a copper hammer charm from the Noboribetsu Onsen demon's hand at the hotel as a souvenir, haha. I also received a birthday card that the hotel had left for me in advance. It was a very satisfying hot spring birthday trip!

舒SHUThe hostel is very close by, right outside the station. The front desk staff are friendly, fluent in English, and will show you around and help you upstairs to your bed. Self-check-in is not available, so please check in before 9 PM! The first floor is a common area with a kitchen, washing machine, shoe cabinet, and seating area. The second floor has a female room, a mixed-gender room, and separate male and female toilets. You must remove your shoes before going upstairs, so the room is very clean! The wooden floors in the room look quite cozy, but they may be a bit old and noisy when walking. You can also hear noise from the next room while sleeping, but free earplugs are provided. There's only one power outlet by the bed, so an extension cord is recommended. The hallway is small, so it's not recommended to bring suitcases; backpacks may have to be placed on the bed. Breakfast is provided: thick toast, various jams, coffee, fresh milk, and cereal. 👍🏻 Luggage storage is free; the front desk staff will arrange for you to store your luggage. 👍🏻

GGuest UserThe location was good and we can park our car in the hotel:s covered car park. It was a great arrangement with snowy weather. The rooms were huge with large sofa and lounge. The bedroom areas were very spacious as well. The in-room Onsen was a great treat. Very spacious for two adults. Relaxing on the Onsen watching the snow flowing down in the beautiful scenery was surely the best experience. The staff are excellent, very polite and helpful. The food was good and see the chefs: details. Excellent stay and enjoy all the time there.

YYUEI lived in Noboribetsu and this atrium, and I still prefer this one. If I go to Noboribetsu next time, I will stay there again. On the mountain Noboribetsu, pick-up service at 2:00 and 4:00 pm (pick-up at JR station) is available after booking with the hotel. The hotel is good, just don't like their public slippers (woven straw uppers). If you don't wear socks, you will feel a little sticky, but so is the flower atrium. The open-air style of the house is very good. It is relatively large. You can take a look at the snow on the pine trees while soaking in the hot spring. It feels very natural and much stronger than the open-air style of the flower atrium. I ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel, but it was really bad. This may be my own problem. I am not used to eating. The ice cream at the kiosk downstairs is delicious, you buy it every day, and it's easy to buy water. There is a small park in front of the hotel, the snow is very thick, you can play with snow, and there is no one. It is clean and very comfortable. A 15-minute walk from the hotel is the Noboribetsu ski resort. It is very convenient to play snow and there are very few people. In short, it is quite satisfactory.
