This was my third visit and truly did not disappoint. The food is amazing and the staff are very friendly. The hotel rooms are in need of some investment but for the price was definitely value for money. I will definitely return and thank you so much for a most enjoyable visit. Angela

We stayed at the Wynnstay for 4 nights on a special cut price deal which included room, dinner and breakfast each day. We paid a £20 per night supplement for a larger room. The hotel is under new management and changes were being made even as we arrived. Tables and chairs were being moved from the front to the rear of the hotel as the location of the dining room was being changed. We enjoyed our stay and really hope the new owners will make a success of running the hotel, but here is our candid assessment of the hotel. The whole building needs a good clean and facelift. The carpet in our room had to be seen to be believed, very worn and dangerously ill fitting. The bed was very comfortable, and we enjoyed having a sofa and writing desk in our room. The bathroom was on three distinct levels and using it (I am 81, my wife 79) was like an assault course. (The toilet was on the middle level and it would have been very easy to fall when leaving it). It might be an idea to tell guests of the hazards when they book! The log fire in the downstairs lounge was brilliant and the food was excellent, our congratulations to the chef. However, the waiting staff were young and very keen to please, but lacked adequate training. Breakfasts were very good and could not be improved upon. Drink prices were very reasonable. Car parking was free and at the rear of the hotel. To sum up, we were treated very well by all of the staff who were very keen to please and make our stay enjoyable. Unfortunately, the cleaning of our room was not up to standard, some days it wasn't cleaned at all and the bins were not emptied. On one occasion we had to complain to the manager about our overflowing bins and he personally went and emptied them straight away. This is a new project for the owners and hopefully the negative features will be dealt with before too long.

A beautiful 2 night stay with walking companions. Delicious food enjoyed by vegetarians and carnivores...hats off to the chef...and friendly, welcoming staff who truly could not do enough to accommodate our needs, with 3 dogs and a mixture of solo travellers and couples. It is an older building with quirks and character but the staff must take credit for making a retuen visit even more enjoyable. Diolch i chi.

Very old and quaint. Floorboards very uneven so no good for anybody unsteady on their feet!! Only bad thing to say about room is the TV was tiny but had 2 winged back chairs to sit in, so wasn't that bad. Meals were excellent and very good service. All in all well recommended.

Machynlleth is a good meeting place for family and friends. The roast lunch at The Wynnstay was excellent, every course was nicely made, presented and tasted delicious. The staff were great - efficient and friendly. A fire blazing away added to the welcome. It is also very good value. Highly recommend

I was last In Machynlleth in 1956 some 68 years ago with my father and brother, us 2 boys were at the local boarding school, our dad staying at The White Lion. Machynlleth and the Wynnstay have both seen better days and are typical candidates for huge doses of “levelling up” Yes of course the Wynnstay building plainly shows its age but full credit to the owners and staff for making the most of what is there, everywhere is clean and tidy , there are attempts to add more comfortable and relaxing areas and whilst the dinning area was in the large corridor between the front door and the kitchen at the back, the chef and his team can certainly cook and serve tasty and satisfying evening meals. The game pate certainly smelled and tasted of game, accompanied by a good jelly and the blade of venison and pork dish were beautifully casseroled to “melt in the mouth” satisfaction. Beef steaks were also of good quality, all accompanied by a small but well priced and appropriate wine selection, staff friendly and attentive; you can see why many locals were dinning out there on both our night’s stays. The White Lion has to be criticised for its so called “light bites” There is nothing “light”about them !! Huge chunks of bread and home cooked ham, accompanied by a significant portion of chips ; on our second visit one portion between two was more than sufficient. So give Machynlleth a go, it can feed and look after you with care and satisfaction and nearby you can visit the beautiful chapel where the Welsh poet RS Thomas was heard on many a Sunday by 2 small boys

Just back from a wonderful 2 night stay here; the staff are the heart and soul of this place and really made our stay special. Food was seasonal and delicious. Housekeeping very good and beds comfortable. I can heartily recommend this hotel.

We are currently staying for the fourth time at The Wynnstay Hotel, so it will be apparent that we have enjoyed coming here in the past. Unfortunately, the hotel has gone downhill since our last visit in March of last year. and we understand that it is in the course of being sold. Last night we were presented with a wine list offering five reds. The first three were no longer available - the final two were £38 and £55. Later in the evening, we learned that we could have had a cabinet sauvignon at £24 which, tonight, we found very acceptable - Why would any hotel try to pull a trick like that? They lost a sale last night, and we had to stomach water. Never have we had such an embarrassment at this hotel. The young staff are also naive, whereas the staff as recently as last March were all so friendly. It was a pleasure coming here, and we discussed wines with the owner, an expert on wines, who is apparently here but, has yet to show his face. This has been a grave disappointment to us as Machynlleth is only 90 minutes from our home and we frequently come to Aberystwyth to collect fresh fish from Jonah's, as there are no fishmongers down our way anymore. This is a lovely part of the world and it would be a shame if this hotel were to fall further. It was very well managed, but clearly, not at present. One could suggest bringing in a M/s Toplis, the manager of the Lion Hotel in Criccieth. I am sure that she would sort things out and, bring the Wynnstay back to scratch.

Booked an hour before we arrived as driving back from London to North Wales. Our superior room was lovely and spacious and very comfortable. Food both for dinner and breakfast was good. The staff were all warm and welcoming, We would stay again
