The Hunters Inn

Spent 2 nights at the Hunters Inn on the 5th/6th June to celebrate my birthday. Could not fault our room. Very spacious and clean. Shouldn’t name staff personally but Jodie and Alex deserve a special mention. They have the attitude that if a job needs doing, do it. Meals were also well presented and tasty. Loved Derek the beautiful peacock. We were blessed with good weather and enjoyed our walk to Heddon Mouth along the valley path. Thank you to all involved for a wonderful stay.

We stayed at The Hunters Inn for one night, for dinner, bed and breakfast. I can’t comment on others’ experience but we couldn’t fault it. We stayed in a standard room (usually code for a view of the rubbish bins) but our room had a roomy balcony with a fantastic view of the beautiful garden and the valley beyond (room 5). It was super clean and very nicely decorated. The shower was really good too. For dinner we had sea bass which was delicious. Breakfast was really nice too and the staff were super friendly and helpful. There was an issue with some of the pumps which weren’t working so no ale - but that was just one of those things and didn’t bother us particularly. The location of this hotel is exceptional. It’s just beautiful and so peaceful.

Everything about the stay was wonderful. All of the staff were so friendly and accommodating, the food was plentiful and tasted amazing, the room was tastefully decorated and spacious. Apologies but I can’t seem to upload my videos, which include the room and the dining room!

Lunch was totally mediocre and overpriced . Wouldn’t bother eating there. Baked potatoe and tuna mayo should be easy and simple but took ages to come. Also was Luke warm. Had to ask for topping that had been ordered. Tasted like it was baked day before and reheated in microwave. Really disgusting taste.

The location is superb at the end of a winding track and with beautiful walks behind the pub. The decor has changed a bit since I was last there and isn’t quite as “quaint”” The wine list was good, the menu enticing. However it was let down by poor service. The waitress seemed very stressed but she was so busy I’m not surprised- didn’t seem to be many staff at all. Can’t fault the food - excellent roast beef and nut roasts. But we had to ask twice for water and after waiting fir half an hour had to clear our own dishes onto an empty table. This place could be good if it had more staff. But great chef.

We went to the Hunters Inn, for a birthday break, as we wanted to visit Lynton and Lynmouth. On arrival we where welcomed by a lovely young lady. We were asked if we wanted a table for that evening for a meal in the restaurant. The food was OK, but only OK, quality issues but that's in my opinion. Room was average with signs of wear and tear in the bathroom, nice size bed ,but the pillows where lumpy and the duvet was not the nicest. Our room was over the kitchen so lots of noise up until 10:00 pm. A dull drone from a extractor was below our room for the rest of the night. We were woken early from 5 + bangs from a door opening and closing, in the kitchen. Over all location was lovely and the Staff where fab.

A return visit to Hunters Inn after 6 years. I am delighted to learn that the NT has bought the property and it is fully staffed with an excellent chef and attentive, friendly, conscientious but informal front of house team. It is reassuring that such a gem of a property in a breathtaking location is still within a reasonable affordable price bracket - thank you! A thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing winter weekend that we won’t leave so long to return next time.

Wonderful hotel and breakfast launchpad for walking the south west coast path, very friendly atmosphere, great peacock(!) and an absolutely stunning location. Everyone was really helpful and manager Ash could not have been more supportive. Delicious breakfast! The restaurant also looks great. Can’t wait to go back!

Absolutely exceptional service from all staff, especially the Manager, Ash, who could not do enough for us. The staff are doing an amazing job given staffing shortages in this industry and I would highly recommend this beautiful hotel. We stayed for 2 nights due to a family funeral, and the hotel also hosted the wake for us - they were so kind and accommodating and the spread was excellent. The chef (s) is clearly experienced and talented and we enjoyed delicious food on both nights at dinner. Again, they have been proactive in managing the staffing shortages all hotels are facing by stripping back the menu, but what they do offer is made to a very high standard. Breakfast is freshly cooked to order, with a lovely selection of cereals, including amazing homemade muesli, fresh fruit and croissants, which were still warm! We have stayed here before and will definitely be returning. We can't speak highly enough of the staff and this beautiful, historic hotel.
