Couple Expert Boutique Hotel (Dongmen Old Street Station)

This hotel is absolutely awful, it should just shut down! I booked a standard queen room, and when I arrived at the front desk, they told me they were 'upgrading' me to a Fuji room for free. When I got to the room, it had no windows and reeked of mildew. They eventually moved me to a room with a window, but then a strong cooking odor wafted in whenever I opened it because there's a snack street right downstairs. On top of that, the front desk told me I'd have to move all my luggage out of the room the next day because I couldn't stay in it. It's incredibly inconvenient for a hotel to create problems and then expect the guest to deal with them. Also, a major warning: this hotel doesn't provide essential toiletries like disposable slippers or hand soap. The slippers they did provide were disgusting. The hairdryer was a cheap, awful one that left my hair frizzy and was full of dust – absolutely gross and unsanitary. Furthermore, the air conditioning is useless; it has no heating function, so it gets very cold at night. Deliveries aren't brought to the room door, so you have to walk a long way to the entrance to pick them up. And there was no hot water for a shower in the middle of the night, among other repulsive issues. It honestly feels like this hotel only exists to annoy people. If you can't run a decent hotel, then don't run one at all. Staying here was a completely sickening experience.

They asked for a 200 RMB deposit, and when I checked out, they said it would be refunded in 5 minutes. Two hours later, it still hadn't been returned. I had to call and chase them, and it took another half an hour after that for the refund to finally come through. Also, this hotel doesn't provide disposable slippers; if guests don't explicitly ask for them, they absolutely refuse to give them out! So odd! The hotel was freezing cold, with no air conditioning or heating. Every AC unit was broken, clearly to save on electricity costs. We were so cold at night that we all caught colds. Housekeeping didn't bother to clean until 5 PM. We had to call and complain, and only then did they arrange for someone to come half an hour later. They're clearly cutting corners on labor costs.

Speechless. They told me they upgraded my room, but it was incredibly noisy. The AC outdoor unit was rattling all night, and it was right by the road. The AC also didn't provide heat, and the curtains didn't block out the light. After a long day exploring Shenzhen, I was too exhausted to argue. I just rearranged things and slept on the sofa all night. The soundproofing was terrible too; I could hear the TV from the next room crystal clear. One-star review.
