I stayed at the Malvina House Hotel twice on a trip to the Falkland Islands in March 2024. On both occasions, I had a great experience and would definitely book this hotel again in the future. The hotel is clean and comfortable. I booked rooms to the front of the hotel overlooking the coastal inlet. Definitely worth the additional cost. Slept very well. All the staff I encountered were lovely. Great service and not intrusive. If you strike up a conversation with staff, you will find everyone is chatty and friendly. Food at the hotel is excellent. I had breakfast, packed lunches, and dinner on several occasions. I used the wifi at the hotel for work (email etc). It is slow compared to other destinations but this is the case all over the Islands. Tip - buy a 24hr access card is you are staying at the hotel for three or more days. It is the best deal. The Falkland Islands are very remote. If you have the same mindset as the locals - you will have a brilliant time. The weather impacts everything around the Islands - be ready for last-minute changes. It is difficult to sometimes get supplies to the Islands - be resourceful and accept that not everything will be perfect all the time.

We had a weekend Staycation at Malvina for 2 nights. Fabulous experience. The beds were so comfortable, breakfast was superb. The staycation includes an evening meal which for us was excellent. Overall we had the best stay and we highly recommend staying here when coming to the Falkland Islands.

I’ve stayed in hotels from Kabul to Sierra Leone and thought I’d seen some low points, but I had yet to reckon with the Malvina House; the South Atlantic’s version of Faulty Towers. My room was located in an annex of stacked portakabin type accommodation which although noisy, is normal for the Falklands, so no big deal. Having spent the previous evening on an 18 hour flight from the UK, my only requirements were a shower and sleep - not the highest bar. The shower was ok, not a dribble but not a spray - the water sort of fell out of the head, but it was warm. However, when I tried to sleep I found an inescapable noise; irregular and loud it was like a pump or boiler. After getting dressed and walking around the outside of the building I located the source, a pump in a room right next to my room, literally the other side of some plasterboard. I went to reception and reported the noise and to their credit, after 20–30 minutes the noise stopped and I finally settled in for a sleep - that was when the room was flooded with light as an emergency light illuminated and I couldn’t switch it off. I dressed again and walked to reception - where I sat for 15 minutes whilst they looked for another room. Eventually a South African lady arrived, seemingly annoyed at being called out and told me the emergency lighting system tests lights randomly and it’s only for 5 minutes, and it’s not them it’s the fire department. I then moved rooms and did get to sleep around three hours later than intended. So be warned - the hotel is noisy, your room can randomly light up in the middle of the night and the staff don’t smell to give a stuff about your experience. Avoid - literally stay anywhere else.

A great place to stay in Stanley. Well located to explore the whole of this tiny capital city. The rooms are clean and well equipped and the staff are helpful and friendly. The food is of good quality with a reasonably extensive menu. The bar area is large and provides plenty of comfortable seating. The hotel has good links with the local travel and tour operators.

This is my tenth stay at MHH and each time I go, the welcome gets better. The rooms are extremely comfortable, the food is amazing and the staff are so friendly. Nothing is ever a problem to them. Looking forward to returning again very soon. The hotel staff are very knowledgeable and go out of their way to advise you of local tours, facilities and anything else you wish to know about the wonderful Falklands Islands. If you’re a tourist, use it as a base to explore the islands further and make contact with Falkland Island Holidays who have extensive knowledge on arranging access to the more remote locations. In the restaurant, be sure to try the chilli salt squid for a starter and the toothfish, steak and any of the Asian main courses. The head chef will cook the Asian dishes with spice to suit your taste. For dessert, you must try the baked Alaska which is the best I’ve ever tried. The South American wines on the wine list are a wonderful compliment to the food.

Lovely comfortable hotel with a nice bar area and restaurant overlooking the inlet. The staff are really exceptional, everyone was helpful and welcoming, even composing for us an email in Spanish to advise our hotel in Chile that our flight there was delayed. Really enjoyable stay.

We stayed for three nights on our arrival in Stanley. We found the room in the Paddocks comfortable and of Travelodge standard. Comfortable bed, good shower and well maintained. Breakfast on the first morning was not so hot though. Juices: orange and apple fine. The cooked breakfast at 7am was cold and the ubiquitous red berries still frozen. We didn't try the ham and sliced cheese.. Coffee and tea self made but no tea pots. The next morning it was a lot better, but general impression was that there was no thinking behind the menu. We joined some friends in the bar on Friday night and it was busy with a good atmosphere. We sampled the Falkland Beerworks draught beer, which was excellent and our friends had a pizza which looked delicious. We had decided to eat out. However, on Saturday night, sadly, all the draught Falklands beer was off and there were no bottles We ordered a "Meat Feast" pizza which had little meat on it and no pepperoni. It was however drowned in barbecue sauce. We complained to the waitress, who said "Perhaps they had run out" I can only say that our stomachs were upset for several days and a month on, we haven't wanted to try another pizza. As we weren't planning to return there, we didn't take it any further.

It's important to put this review in context - yes, you will have to pay for WiFi; yes, you will get a more limited selection of TV channels...but you're on an island in the South Atlantic, have some perspective. That being considered, Malvina House is still one of the best hotels I've been in. Praise firstly to the assistant manager, Karin, whose enthusiasm for the guests is so infectious, and the hotel was certainly lucky to snap her up! Secondly, there's something quite wonderful about having a cinema in your hotel. Yes, it's for the whole community and just happens to be there, but there is something quite cosy about dropping in to see a new film (complete with a popcorn & treats stand) and then pop back upstairs to your room. The restaurant serves excellent food, and the bar is a very comforting place to chill out. A service for packed lunches is available, which is a terrific bonus when you're out the next day on an island tour. The rooms are comfortable - not the Ritz, but again have some perspective. Only thing I would highlight is making sure you budget for the fact you have to pay for Wifi (as you have to do pretty much anywhere on the island), but unless you're an Internet addict it won't be a massive hit. Already planning a new trip to the Falklands in 2025 and not a doubt I will be staying here again.

I was just visiting Port Stanley for the day. I am British, so expected to be able to get GREAT fish, chips & mushy peas in a place where there is a multitude of fish factory ships in the harbour. VERY disappointed. The chips were not fresh cut, they were frozen chips deep fried & I appeared to get the dregs of that bag of frozen chips, as mine were mostly overcooked "bits" from the bottom of the bag. The fish batter was THICK & stodgy.....& very overcooked. Redeemable feature....the fish inside, once the stodgy batter was removed was reasonable & they did have malt vinegar. I think I probably got "one" small tablespoon of mushy peas, if that. Waste of money really. I should've waited in the queue at the Globe Tavern down the road. The food looked MUCH nicer.
