Introduction Fall Leaves Viewing in Noboribetsu

Introduction
Some information may have been translated by Google Translate
Every autumn, Noboribetsu's red leaves attract a large number of tourists. Hell Valley is the remains of a volcanic crater in Noboribetsu City that is still spewing white smoke. The scarlet earth is surrounded by fiery red maple leaves, which complement each other perfectly. In October, you have the opportunity to enjoy this fairyland-like scenery. Noboribetsu Onsen is also a unique place to view red leaves. The hot springs are paired with red leaves, allowing travelers to relax physically and mentally. The Oyunuma Observation Deck on the south side offers a panoramic view of the autumn leaves of Oyunuma. The red leaves on the lakeside contrast with the steamy lake surface, creating a unique autumn scenery. Visitors can also stroll along the trails and enjoy the beautiful red leaves of Noboribetsu up close.

#japantrip Breathtaking scenery with easy trails. it was not very busy for an afternoon weekday. The footpath can seem a little far but it is worth it! The river stones were a beautiful color. It’s a nice tourist attraction. Has a bit of foul smell but it’s from the sulfur, don’t stay too long in one spot but definitely come! It’s nice 🥰 it’s free though! And you can also go for a nice walk to a nearby lake!

Noboribetsu Jigokudani (Hell Valley)

Getting There - Bought a Noboribetsu Area pass and just take a JR train there. There’s direct bus to take you there from the station. Quite a breathtaking sight at Jigokudani and I feel like it’s a must to visit when you’re in Hokkaido. However, please take note that it’s quite dangerous to visit during winter as the slopes are slippery. Do not recommend to bring along elderly during winter. There’s also some restaurant and a bear park nearby for you to visit after visiting Jigokudani. 👍🏻 #noboribetsu #hokkaido #hokkaidotravel #japan

Snow Heaven in Hell Valley!

Spent 2 days in the famed Noboribetsu Onsen village also known as the “Hell Valley” due to its famous sulphuric hot spring and craters! Traveling from Sapporo Station- Noboribetsu Station-Hankyu Bus- our stay at Dai ichi Takimotokan. It’s a relatively less crowded village but bustling with live and beau covered in snow! The tiny village has convenience stores, alcohol stall, multiple food options and many devils statue littered around! Be sure to capture all of the onsen devils you can find! We were extremely lucky to book a stay at Dai-Ich Takimotokan, check in and out were a breeze, opted for a full board, and got to soak in a variety of hotspring in our own hotel! There’s several hot spring pool in at outdoor area which also gives you a full view of the Hell Valley ! It’s a location not to be missed or rushed off for just a day trip! #2024wish #onsen

Jigokudani

Jigokudani, also known as Hell Valley, is an area with heat from volcanic craters and is the source of many hot springs and onsens. This makes Noboribetsu the number one onsen town in Hokkaido. Inside, there are viewpoints where you can see the heat vents caused by volcanic reactions, and there are also wooden bridges that allow you to walk down to closely observe the hot springs. Notably, Hell Valley is the filming location for the movie 'Fan Day'.

Hokkaido, Noboribetsu, Jigokudani

Starting from Sapporo JR Station, the most convenient way is to take the Hokuto Limited Express to Noboribetsu Station, which takes about 75 minutes without any transfers. If you take the local line to Noboribetsu, you may need to transfer at Minami-Chitose Station and Tomakomai Station, and the journey takes about 2 hours. At the bus waiting area of Noboribetsu Station, you can first go to the visitor center to enjoy some milk ice cream. There are two types of buses between Noboribetsu Station and Noboribetsu Onsen. One charges based on the distance traveled, where you need to take a ticket when you board and pay according to the electronic display when you get off; the other requires payment upon boarding. Buses only accept cash and do not accept transportation IC cards. From the Noboribetsu Onsen bus stop, it takes about half an hour to walk along the slope to the entrance of Jigokudani, with many restaurants and hot spring hotels along the way. The paths within Jigokudani are well-maintained, with few stairs. However, many sections are made of wooden planks, so it can be a bit slippery on rainy days. It is recommended to bring a telephoto lens for photography, with a focal length of 200 to 300mm.

Noboribetsu Jigokudani (Hell Valley)

Formed by the volcanic activity of Mt. Hiyoriyama, this explosion crater has a diameter of approximately 450 meters and an area of about 11 hectares. The valley is dotted with numerous hot spring outlets and steam vents, creating a bubbling, boiling landscape that inspired the name 'Hell where demons reside.' From here, various types of hot springs gush out at a rate of 10,000 tons per day, supplying the hotels and inns in the hot spring town. The 'Demon Fire Path,' a promenade from the entrance of Hell Valley to Tessen Pond, is softly illuminated by lights every night, creating a very magical atmosphere! Access It takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Sapporo ● Bus: About 15 minutes from JR Noboribetsu Station to 'Noboribetsu Onsen Bus Terminal,' then about 10 minutes on foot ● Car: About 10 minutes from Noboribetsu Higashi IC on the Dō-Ō Expressway
