The room and bathroom was clean and nice. We were driving but there were ample parking lots. We got the free welcome drinks, free ice cream, free chazuke and free morning coffee during our stay. We were able to see sunset from our room too. The public bath was clean too with all amenities provided, even with massage chairs. Totally enjoy our stay, the receptionist spoke good english too. very recommended.

I came for Togakushi Shrine in Nagano. The hotel is directly across from Nagano Station, with a convenience store downstairs. Within a one-minute walk, there's a highly recommended ramen shop and a yakiniku restaurant. The bus to Togakushi Shrine also stops right in front of the hotel. The location is incredibly convenient.

I absolutely loved Karuizawa; it was truly the highlight of our trip. The hotel is very conveniently located, and both the setting and the service were exceptional. Basking in the warm late-summer sun, we savored the relaxed holiday atmosphere. There's also a Japanese restaurant called Atago downstairs, which I highly recommend – just remember to book in advance. I'd definitely choose to stay here again if I have the chance to visit Karuizawa in the future.

Booked a room here for 1 day just to explore matsumoto. this hotel was a pretty good distance to walk to the tourist attraction such as the matsumoto castle and nawate shopping street. loved that they offered free icecream or ramen between 8:00-10:00 pm. If you ever check out and you still have time before your bus leaves, you can also ask front desk to keep your luggage so you can be luggage free exploring. they were super kind and understanding with all the requests we had.

Highly surprised with thjs room! So spacious and well-equipped with amenities! Parking is also available although one has to walk abit as it is behind the hotel. There are 2 TV’s and 1 remote so will need to toggle left and right. Bed is good although pillow can be more firm in my own opinion. With mountain view and waking up to sunrise, what a way to wake up. We didn’t have breakfast so we wouldn’t know about the variety. There’s a convenience store just a few blocks down. Overall, we enjoyed out stay here in Hotel JAL - specifically this room :D

We really enjoy staying at this hotel. We still got lost in the hotel after 2 days of staying here 🤣 the hotel is damn huge like a city. But we will come back again next time. We had a great great stay, love walking over to the outlet for shopping. Will appreciate if hotel can give free parking and free entry for onsen.

Awesome hotel under the hotel group chain. Location is excellent however not that near to local dinning places (average about 15mins drive). Hospitality and services were beyond expectation. Booked room was as described and as shown in hotel's website. In reality, the room was very spacious and comfortable. My family and I had a little car trouble on day of check out, and the hotel staff were kind, patient and extremely helpful in resolving the issue. Kudos to the staff going beyond their job scopes I believe.

Business hotel very close to Nagano Station. Clean room and very good breakfast — served on the 14th floor, with a great view of the surrounding mountains - in good weather =)

The hotel is located right across from Nagano Station, making it super easy to find and incredibly convenient. There are tons of dining options nearby. If you enjoy walking, you can even stroll to Zenko-ji Temple, with plenty of shops to browse along the way. The lobby is spacious, and there are lots of complimentary amenities. The onsen even has a small outdoor pool. For Togakushi, the bus stop is right under the pedestrian bridge across from Nagano Station. To get to Jigokudani, there's a ticket office behind Nagano Station, at the bottom of the stairs; after buying your ticket, the bus stop is just about 100 meters away. The hotel also offers luggage storage, and there's a convenience store right next door. The only downside was that the street outside wasn't cleared of ice after the snowfall, so it was quite slippery when leaving the hotel.

The hotel definitely shows its age, but it's still well-maintained. Its ski-in/ski-out access is super convenient for a ski resort hotel. The on-site hot spring is also a highlight, especially the semi-open-air one. Lunch at the restaurant is quite pricey, and the dinner buffet is the exact same every single night, with virtually no changes to any of the dishes. For guests staying multiple nights, it's quite off-putting and frustrating.

GGuest UserI am a solo traveler who stayed in the room with private open bath. I enjoyed my 2 nights stay. Hotel looks tired and old but it was all good . Btw, you have to use a key to open the door not access card. I paid for my room with breakfast and dinner. I have a private dining space in a restaurant which I like it. Skip all queue and I dine at the same place for all meals. Dinner was great. Breakfast spread was wonderful too. I tried the one hour jap massage and it was so good. There isn’t anyone who can really speak English. The guests are mainly locals. There is free shuttle to check in and check out. Overall I give 9/10!!

NNuonuokafeiThe classic Karuizawa Resort Hotel, which has been passed down for more than 100 years, has been restored to its original state. It will welcome guests with a brand new look in 2024. There is a pick-up at the hotel's pick-up area at the south exit of Karuizawa Station. The car is parked a little inside and you have to look for it. There is a bus at 2:30 in the afternoon. If there is no bus, take a taxi directly to the hotel, which costs about RMB 60. The hotel's etiquette reception is impeccable. Every staff member is warm and friendly. The room is just the best time to live. It is brand new but no longer decorated. I booked a better room with a terrace than the basic room. I was given a corner room with large double-sided glass. The room is so beautiful. The terrace is quite small and I have never been out. The basic room of the hotel is also very large. There is no problem. Every room is comfortable to live in. It is recommended to include meals. Dinner is 16,500 yen plus 1,000 yen to upgrade the meat. The meat is tender and delicious. It is worth it! Every dish was delicious, the right temperature, the best quality. Breakfast was 5700 yen, not bad, but the quality was not as good as the breakfast in Nikko Jingu. The boiled egg was hard to open without an egg opener, the bacon was not crispy, and the toast was not toasted. I was a little disappointed, but the service was still perfect. The curtains in the room were very blackout, which was highly praised. There were many buses going to and from the station to go shopping at the outlets. It was easy to buy. There were all the big sports brands and the styles were new. In summary, I would stay here again if I went to Karuizawa.

OO.K. MACI’ve stayed at many ryokans throughout my travels—often making up half of each trip—but this one felt a bit different. It seemed to be run by just one person, who I assume is the owner. Everything was self-service, which might be understandable considering it was the most affordable option among the ryokans in the area. Most amenities required an extra fee, such as towels. Payment was made by dropping coins into a basket and making your own change, which wasn’t very convenient—especially since I didn’t carry much cash. One thing I appreciated was the luggage delivery service. I was able to leave my bag at the lobby before check-out and have it sent to Toyama Station (for about 4,000 JPY, cash only). What stood out was the creativity in the shared spaces. There were several common rooms designed for relaxing and spending time—perfect if you’re traveling with friends. You could play ping pong, read books, watch TV, or use the canteen, which had a microwave and dishes available. They even had coin-operated massage chairs and a small fitness room. However, I must mention two important downsides: 1. Limited nearby dining options – Many restaurants shown as open on Google Maps were actually closed. The only one that was open had extremely slow service—I waited nearly an hour for dinner. 2. Insects—large ones – Unfortunately, I encountered big insects in my room, which made it hard to sleep. (He even provided insect-catch tape for me while introduce the room) I stayed awake most of the night, worrying it might come back—especially stressful since I had to get up early the next morning to catch a bus to Ogizawa. Minds you, stairs only, need to carry your luggage down by yourself. Overall, while it offers good value for the area and has unique communal features, this ryokan may not suit travelers who prefer full service, cashless payment, or guaranteed comfort.

GGuest UserThe room was immaculately clean, and the welcoming staff was very friendly. We had a French set menu for dinner, which was delicious! The breakfast buffet offered both Japanese and Western dishes, and the food was delicious and varied! Another fun thing was the short tram ride to the hot spring baths. The water is natural, and it was a delightful experience to soak in the baths while gazing at the distant mountain views! It's a perfect place to relax and unwind on vacation!

GGuest UserSkiing in Karuizawa in December, good location, 10 minutes drive to the ski resort. The room size is moderate, but the biggest problem is that the weather is cold, the air conditioning and heating in the room are invalid, and the temperature in the room is as cold as outside. There is no door password and room password on the morning of the check-in day, and you will reply only if you take the initiative to ask.

MMeowVanWhat an awesome experience! The hotel offered exemplary service before we even arrived. Due to special travel arrangements, we arrived late and the staff quick to arrange an in-room bento dinner for us before our arrival. When we got there, we were immediately blown away by the gorgeousness of the hotel. Despite its age, everything was very clean and polished. I can see that great care had been taken to upkeep the hotel and it’s premises, which are extraordinarily beautiful. We couldn’t resist taking pictures even after check-out, and it took us an hour to finally reluctantly leave. Words cannot actually do the place justice, you must visit there yourself. We were very impressed with how delicious the food was, and the attention to detail, including the placement of the food, the coordination of food color. My mouth is still watering as I recall how delicious it was. I had 10 helpings of their prime rib one day. Besides, I had a dietary restriction and the staff were really careful with that, to the extent of reminding me what dishes not to eat everyday at their breakfast and dinner buffet. In addition to excellent food and service, the hotel went out of its way to be very eco-friendly. For every day that we did not need our room to be tidied, we earned points, which can be traded in for ice cream or other goodies. Finally, the staff spoke perfect English. This is rare indeed, and it made everything so much easier and so much more enjoyable. Thanks for the experience!
