"I stayed one night at this hotel, which is conveniently located near the train station and feels fresh and new. "This hotel is about 1.5 km from Tsuruoka JR Station. The nearest bus stop is 'Science Park.' There's a direct bus from Yamagata Airport, but other bus connections are unavailable, making transportation a bit inconvenient; it's more suitable for those traveling by car. The hotel itself is newly renovated, surrounded by rice paddies, offering a beautiful and clean environment. Breakfast is a Japanese-style buffet featuring locally sourced ingredients. Dinner requires a reservation, as dining options nearby are limited to a convenience store. There are three dinner set menus, which I found a bit pricey, but the food was delicious, especially the bread and desserts. "The room is spacious and in traditional Japanese style. Was expecting a private onsen in the room but it was only a bathtub. The staff couldn’t communicate well in English which caused some misunderstanding during our stay but they’re friendly and responsible enough to solve the problem for us so it’s still a great experience overall. The breakfast was very traditional and got more and more abundant every day. We had a great 4nights stay in Hayamakan. The highlight has to be the nearby restaurants. The hotel will give you some recommendations nearby, please make sure you try some of them!"

"I've stayed in over a dozen onsen ryokans of this type, but this one really missed the mark, especially considering the price of over 3000 yen per night. 1. The hot spring water itself is excellent, but any onsen in Zao is bound to be good. 2. The rooms don't have private bathrooms. Here's the main issue: the entire ryokan only has two small onsen pools. One has 2 shower stalls, and the other has 6. Imagine 8 men squeezed into a pool of about 2 square meters, then queuing to take a shower – what a scene! Plus, all these are indoor pools; the ryokan doesn't offer any outdoor baths. 3. The pictures show the public bath in front of the hotel, which I ended up paying a few hundred yen to use because the hotel's own pools were so disappointing. Overall, if you're looking to enjoy hot spring bathing, do not book here. If your main purpose is skiing, you might consider it, as it's only a 5-minute walk from the ski slopes."

"Although the price of accommodation including one room and two meals is nearly NT$20,000, after personal experience, I really feel that this hotel is worth it... 1. When checking in, a dedicated person will deliver the luggage to the room. Guests can enjoy the beautiful Japanese garden in the lobby on the first floor while drinking coffee/green tea/matcha/drinks carefully prepared by the hotel. At this time, they can feel the hotel's care! 2. You can pre-select a dining time for dinner and breakfast the next day, and you can dine in a small private room with your roommate, and there is a dedicated person to serve you. The meals are exquisite and delicious, and the ingredients are all served in exquisite Japanese small utensils. After experiencing it, I feel that the money spent is worth it... "This hotel is excellent! I checked in a bit late, and a Filipino staff member was incredibly helpful, assisting with the check-in process and introducing all the facilities. On another note, I realized I had left something behind after checking out and called the hotel. It was the same staff member who answered and immediately helped arrange for my forgotten item to be mailed to my hotel in Sendai. I'm very grateful for the hotel's service and its warm-hearted staff. I also commend the hotel for its excellent staff training. The next time I return to Zao, I will definitely choose this hotel again. Not only that, but the hotel's facilities are also fantastic, especially the large public bath – soaking in the hot spring after a long day really helps to relieve fatigue!"

The hotel has a Showa-era feel. There's no elevator, so you have to carry your luggage up yourself, thankfully it's only on the second floor. There are six private baths that can be booked in advance, and you can use them freely after 9 pm as long as no one is there – it's fantastic! After soaking in the hot springs, they even give you complimentary milk. Dinner was Yamagata beef shabu-shabu, which was delicious. I'd definitely stay here again next time I'm in Zao!

I cannot attest too much overall to the quality of this hotel, as mine was a fleeing evening visit followed by an early morning departure but I will describe as best I can. It is a fair way away from the station, about fifteen minutes walk, neither hilly nor strenuous, but quite close to several local bus routes including one terminating at Dewa Sanzen. There’s a small cinema a short walk away, though no immediate convenience shops-there are, however, as in most hotels, drink and food vending machines available in the lobby. A free breakfast is served from 7:00 and looked delicious, though I did not get to partake as I had an early business appointment. For those travelling lightly, there are coin operated washing and drying machine facilities. The nearby park in the spring is redolent with the aroma of flowers and the area is known for its European style buildings with the museum being particularly worth visiting. The staff were attentive and very accommodating, and while the building itself is older it is maintained well and clean. For older travellers, do be mindful that the entrance doors are non-automated and may prove a little heavy so request help if need be.

The trip was planned few weeks ahead, accommodation options in Zao Onsen are scarce. If there were other options, I probably would not go with this hotel again. - Before arrival, I called the hotel twice using trip.com but no one answered. - There was only one front desk staff handling check-in. I have waited for 20 minutes for check-in and the Indian family has it waited for 35 minutes. There was another staff coming out from the office and acknowledged the queue. However no action was taken despite the long wait by guest. - I inquired about shuttle bus service but the staff at the entrance said “No shuttle bus”. I saw shuttle bus having the hotel name around the Zao Onsen area. - On the first day of room cleaning, the cleaning lady has not replaced the used porcelain cup and Japanese cup. Also no replenishment on tea bags and toilet amenities. At this price point of over USD500 per night, I was quite surprised. - There are 2 onsen places, one outside the hotel and one on the 1F. The outdoor onsen inside the hotel was not opened and the reason is “snow accumulation”. Overall, the room is spacious and clean but the service did not meet the expectations.

I spent two nights in Tokyo Daiichi Hotel Tsuruoka and I would stay there again. The location is very good - ten minutes easy walk from Tsuruoka JR train station and it's directly connected to S-Mall, so you don't even have to go outside to access the shops and restaurants in the mall. There is also a bus terminal at the mall for local buses - I caught a bus from there to Mount Haguro. The bedroom was a good size for a Japanese business hotel with a good size desk and chair. However, I could only find one power socket! It's good that I brought a power strip! Typical of Japanese hotels with Onsen / Sentō the bathroom is small - most people would use the public bath facilities to shower. The hotel has a Japanese style bath, however it was in the annexe, so it was rather confusing the first time I tried to find it. Two of the baths were inaccessible - the door was locked. The main bath was okay, there is a sauna and cold plunge pool. The front desk were very polite, efficient and could speak basic English.

The accommodations are very convenient, featuring separate shower and toilet facilities within the room. The hotel provides excellent shuttle services to various destinations; you can easily request a ride to the Zao Ropeway to see the Snow Monsters, as well as to restaurants, the bus station, and more.

Absolutely lovely place. At first I thought I'd be uncomfortable with how spaceous the room was (I'm a very jumpy solo traveller), but the room was just so comfy with an excellent view. The heater was a bit hot, but there was an electric fan too, so all was great. The hotel allows you to have a free 50 minute private bath each night, and the private baths are amazing, able to accommodate up to five persons and with windows to let in the light and stuff. Excellent onsen water -- very acidic and very hot. Takes some time getting used to the heat, but once you do it's a heavenly experience. There are also public baths (free of charge) that you could enjoy throughout the night and into early morning (they're closed for cleaning only during 9-12 in the morning), one indoor and one outdoor, both connected to one another. The outdoor one is a bit small, but it's so refreshing to be able to flee from the stifling indoor onsen to enjoy the crisp winter air while soaking up in the heat.

A wonderful place to stay in. The service was fantastic. The room was huge, much too large for just a solo traveler like me but it would have been perfect if I had brought my wife and child along. The onsen quality was great, albeit the fittings at the shower area were a bit old. The food was hands down amazing and featured great local produce. Honestly there was too much for one person to finish! What I especially liked was that they had a separate room on the first floor where if it was too early for you to check in, you could drop your luggage off, change, and then grab your gear and head to the slopes. Same thing if you intend to charge the slopes a bit more on your last day, just leave your stuff in the storage room, hit the slopes, come back and change out, hit the onsen for the last time, then go off. Definitely recommending this place to my friends visiting Zao.
