Ink and Pine - Qian Songyan's 120th Birthday Anniversary Exhibition

This year marks the 120th birthday of the famous landscape painter Qian Songyan. The 'Donation and Collection Series Exhibition of the National Art Museum of China: Ink and Pine - Qian Songyan's 120th Birthday Anniversary Exhibition' was grandly opened at the National Art Museum of China on July 31, 2019. The exhibition is divided into three themes: 'Depicting the Vibrant Motherland', 'Coming from the Far South', and 'Picking up the Jade and Clouds to Find My Master'. It displays 20 works of Qian Songyan collected by the National Art Museum of China, 100 works provided by his family, and 75 precious documents such as poems and sketches. Wu Weishan, the director of the National Art Museum of China, introduced that Mr. Qian Songyan's artistic career has experienced several social upheavals. At the turning point of the times, he made a mid-life change with outstanding talent and extraordinary courage, breaking free from the layers of nets woven by tradition, and becoming a late bloomer master of Chinese landscape painting. Now, we once again face Mr. Qian's works, appreciate his excellent understanding and comprehension of art; experience his listening to the voice of the times, and persist in the creative concept of keeping pace with the times; feel his self-transformation in the relationship between art and life, inheritance and innovation. Through those cloud-steaming and mist-rising pictures, we will not only see a vigorous and thriving real world again, but also witness a vibrant and thriving Chinese cultural vein that crosses the time and space sequence, which is long-lasting and ever-new!
