The Double Pavilion of the Temple of Heaven

There is a pavilion in Beijing's Temple of Heaven with quite a significant origin, known as the renowned Double Pavilion. This pavilion was built in the sixth year of Emperor Qianlong's reign, coinciding with the 50th birthday of his mother, Empress Dowager Chongqing. At that time, it was customary to celebrate 'whole year' birthdays. As a son, Emperor Qianlong presented his mother with a grand gift by constructing this Double Pavilion in the Zhongnanhai area. The two circular pavilions intersect with each other, a marvel of ingenuity, and the foundation beneath is carved into two large peach shapes, a very rare design. In 1977, it was moved from Zhongnanhai to settle here, becoming a scenic spot in the Temple of Heaven Park. Visitors can view it for free and witness the elegance of the Double Pavilion.
